Kooner Transport Group (KTG) - Kitchener ON

I actually booked a load with them on Friday. After reading another post about these guys on this site, 1 member mentioned that when they actually do a load they have done a good job, however 75% of the time they call to cancel do to breakdowns or something else. I called them right away looking for an ETA and guess what........ breakdown......
DNU

Used to be one of our go-to carriers. Sad how they have fallen so quickly. They have done it to themselves by getting too greedy to quickly.

Yes one is definitely at Trans99 and they sure have picked up their game too! Now one of our go-to carriers for sure!

I think another one of their dispatchers started their own company too.

I think most of them were asked to leave as opposed to leaving on their own. Good for the other carriers who have picked them up.

Yes Trans99 was on our DNU for the longest time. Since the KTG dispatcher has come over, it is a complete 180 with how they ended up on the DNU. I don't know that we would have started to use them again had he not moved over to them. He said that Harry acknowledged that they had a bad reputation in the past but have turned around. It is the simple things like the 24 hour dispatch to be able to talk to find out when your load is, accurate information, and not hiding behind emails or phones.

So we did another load, just because it involved zero deadhead miles.

Now having trouble getting paid. Invoice at 75 days and we've been told 3 times in the last 3 weeks that the cheque should go in the mail shortly.

Uggh...

We have them on a one-load-at-a-time basis. Every payment takes about 10 communications either by phone calls or email. Last two payments was Feb 2017-44 days, Aug 2018-49 days which is respectable but I don't know if it is because of the hold status we have them on. They also know that at 45 days we contact the consignee.

They are currently on hold so our dispatch does not reach out to them unless there is zero deadhead miles and we know who the consignee is. We will not do a drop to their yard - only direct delivery and we will not play the game where we cross with their PARS.

Morning all,

Anything recent with them in regards to service? They gave unit# and trailer# saying it is their own truck for a potential load.

Kooner transport has been rejecting a small claim damage on 1 skid. Consignee has the BOL signed with photos. Their insurance denies the claim because it's below their deductible.

Anyone know what to do next? These guys are frustrating to deal with and lack professionalism.

Any upstanding carrier would honour the claim and pay out of pocket. Reach out to the owner and see if you can work something out. If they're not willing to make it right and take care of the claim, you could just deduct it from the freight invoice (as long as it hasn't been paid yet).

If I'm not mistaken you can't deduct from the freight invoice, as the claim and freight invoice are separate.

Technically, if it's an official claim and going to be paid out via insurance then you have to pay the freight bill in its entirety, yes. It becomes a grey area if the carrier is not willing to take responsibility for the damage and payout the claim on their own without their insurance company. Which is why I'd suggest talking to the owner and trying to work something out, and mention you don't mind deducting it from their freight bill if they're giving you the run around.
