I try and be fair and work with everyone ,BUT I have just about had enough of these LIARS. I have never in all the years I have been in business be bold faced lied too by anyone as much as these guys. They will tell you whatever you need to hear to get the load out of you and then when you give them the load with pick up times etc they never make it ontime. I am sitting here in the office at 7pm waiting on a truck that was supposedly dispatched at 3 pm from Mississauga to load in Brantford. The driver called at 430 from Oakville. Well it just so happened that one of my local guys was one exit ahead of him. Guess what at 7pm my driver is home (35 minutes from my yard) and he (East Indian) just called from Hamilton??? The carrier that I gave(East Indian) the load too first was supposed to have dispatched his truck at 930 this morning for a pick in Guelph that closed at 2pm at 130 he called and said tell the customer we will be there by 230-3pm we hope.

It just never seems to fail everytime. Well guess what call me whatever you wish rasist etc unless I have worked with them and they have done a decent job that can all kma before they work for me. If this load did not have to deliver tomorrow I would just lock up and go home but alas my customer needs his freight delivered and that is what I signed up for.

To all the East Indian companies If you want loads and respect in the industry do what you say you will. Lying stealing and trying to pull as fast one won't get you the work. Doing what you say when you say it will.. treat other drivers and companies with the respect you would like to receive in return..

Rant over.

Glad you had the cojones to say it like it is. Doesn't make you racist. And, KUDOS to you for staying late for your customer! Give yourself a pat on the back...and then a cold one on ice.
Hang in there - Monday is just about over.

I don't know if I would put all East Indian companies in the same bucket. The fact is that the majority of the new investment into the industry fom an asset-based point of view is East Indian, so by proxy the problems with start-up companies who frankly don't have their act together will look skewed to East Indians.

But ... lying, stealing, concealing ... never a way to get a repeat customer.

Rob, I can identify and sympathize with your anger and frustration. I can't even remember the number of times I have been lied to, cheated, disrespected and defrauded by a supplier, especially in an urgent or critical situation. What I do remember however, is that the perpetrators of these injustices have been a virtual United Nations of origin, race, colour and creed. It would be so much easier if trucking companies owned or operated by East Indians held a monopoly on shady business practices. Unfortunately, they don't. Your last paragraph really says it all and should be directed to anyone and everyone in this industry, regardless of their ethnic background.

Geez folks ... by all that is sacred and Holy, don't tell him to have a cold one !!! ... it's like throwing a cow into a school of piranha ... it's just not something you want to see !!!!!!!!!!!!!
On a more serious note, I don't think the business practices you are referring to are as much of an ethnicity issue as they are culture clash. If you keep in mind the cultures that many immigrants come from are fraught with corruption, you can understand why their business are they way they are when they start up. Those that make it past a year or two have learned that is not the way business is done in North America. Just my humble 2 cents worth.

My mother always told me that it is not racist if you have experienced a situation multiple times with that particular race. My experience has been that it is more with the first generation East Indians. They have been raised in a country where these sort of practices are needed to survive and feed their families. The issue is that they need to realize that the same rules don't apply here. We have some great relationships with them with certain companies, they do what they say, keep us updated and do a great job. We are however very hesitant of using new ones due to our past experiences, and they have been horrible ones, that have cost us hundreds and thousand of dollars in lost revenue not to mention years off my life dealing with the stress.

I've experienced the same service levels from "white" owned and operated carriers, so I would be loath to cast dispersions on any one group. Some blame the Russians out of Chicago.. some say its the Mexicans.. others blame East Indians. The harsh reality seems to be that people, regardless of race, creed, colour, ethnicity, or gender, simply don't give a shit (it's the one quality that unites us all I guess). Some wear turbans while others do not.. doesn't change a damn thing.

This. I've seen horrible service from every race you can imagine. The only reason we see east indians as such a huge issue in Ontario is that there is so many of them.

Same reason there is so many Russians in Chicago and there is so many Mexicans in the south.

I've been wronged by all walks of the earth in this industry. Also, we find there are people that go over and above to service the customer (again from a variety of places). Reading this thread and remembering instance I've had to deal with, I have to agree, there are cultures that do business differently than 'I' would. That being said, I'd not generalize and say every company made up of people from xyz country all do business in the same way.

The problem that Rob is experiencing is that HE would commit to something and then come through with the service, HE would absolutely call the customer if there was an issue or a delay, just as many reputable people (many members here) would do. When someone else does business differently than we would it's hard to understand the logic because it's not how WE would run our businesses. Especially if it means letting a customer down.

Other members here have hit the nail on the head. Those that through their growing pains learn how to conduct themselves I want to help and make an effort to give them more business and those that tell me what I want to hear and then do what they want, I try as hard as I can to steer dispatch away from them for a period of time, then try them again to see if they have improved.

Sensitive topic.

Keep well,
Mike

It's got nothing to do with race really.. it's just the wonderful world of brokering that we live in every day. And to top it off.. after the carrier has failed the customer says to himself.. "stupid broker!!!.. from now on I'm going to work with carriers directly!"..

The good thing is this might be the only place you can talk about this. I can't imagine any transportation organization actually discussing this.

This has really made my morning. You all have great points. To the best cook I know-awesome rant!!!!!

Maybe time to read (or reread) Hitler's "Mein Kampf". We should learn from history. It's a slippery slope that could very well happen again.

I must say they are doing the job on the deliveries for me. It is a 3 drop load to Quebec and they have made 2 and should be at the 3rd very soon.

I have to say I would work with them again if the need arose to do so.

But I sure was pissed off last night.

Why could the state of the industry and the players in it not be brought up in an open industry event? As stated here this is not about race it is about business practices. I could care less what you look like or where you come from, I just want people that do what they say when they say it. Everyone has called and given loads back for one reason or another we have all missed picks and deliveries. No one is perfect although I am close and damn good looking to boot.

My point was that a large segment of the players in the industry are dragging the rest down with their shady practices. I titled the thread East Indian but it could have been Asshole White guys in the 519. We as an industry need to police ourselves and try and get rid of the Tony's and others. The thread was not meant to offend anyone but if it does maybe you should ask yourself is it me he is talking about.
In the long run we will all be better off if we can clean it up ourselves.
