Invoice is nearing 90 days, several voicemail messages and an email have been ignored over the past couple weeks.

Finally got someone on the phone (couldn't understand what he said his name was) but he had no information. He could only say that he will have Raj or Jazz call me back tomorrow.

Looking through the paperwork I see that Manitoulin was listed as the carrier. I called Manitoulin and they told me they brokered this load to a company called TTW. I called TTW and gave the information, am waiting to hear back from them to see if they brokered this to Road King and if they have paid.

Quite the tangled web...

So, I called Road King today because the owner didn't call me back. I asked for the owner and was transferred to a lady who said her name was Raj. I explained the situation and when she told me someone would call me back I laid into her a bit. She then tells me that she is new there... Obviously not the owner... or is it? haaha...

I had her transfer me to the highest ranking manager in the office, which apparently was 'Jessie' in dispatch, the person I spoke to yesterday.

Jessie said the owner is out of town and won't be back for a couple more days, much like yesterday when he said the owner would call me back today. I talked to Jessie for a few minutes asking all the usual questions: Is there anybody else who can sign a cheque there? Is there some way the owner could sign a cheque and I could pick it up somewhere? Can you borrow the money from your aunt? :D Nothing, but BS and someone will call you back, so I let loose a torrent of expletives and let him know I would be contacting everyone listed on the paperwork everyday until I get paid.

He didn't seem to care, so I hung up...

I agree, and that's what I've been up to this morning. Once it gets to this point I will call just about anybody, but the ultimate customer is the best target.

Rather than contact the customer in this case, I thought I should give fair warning to the other players in this game, so as not to get the wrong party in trouble.

I contacted managers at Manitoulin and TTW to explain and let them know that my next step is to contact the customer.

Both of these companies offered to pay me directly if I do not get my payment from Road King by Friday this week.

I'll admit, I'm surprised they were so forthcoming. I contacted them in hopes of getting some leverage and to notify them before I contacted the customer, but did not expect them to offer direct payment to me so quickly. I am impressed! Great people!

I have a dealing with Manitoulin and they came to my office to drop off the cheque. Yes great people.

As for Road King, I call everyday and talk with Harjit and I get my answers and cheque right away,

Try that and good luck.

Thanks Blondie. I have asked to speak with the owner several times this week. I just keep getting the story that he is out of town and is the only person who can sign cheques.

At this point, I do not believe a word I am told by this company. Even if they are being honest, what kind of business owner leaves town with nobody to sign cheques in the office, when they are being hounded about overdue invoices.

Sounds like Manitoulin, a pretty square company that's been around forever, is pissed that TTW double brokered their load, and TTW was willing to pay hush money so Manituolin didn't find out they were double brokering ... Looks good on 'em.

Thanks for Input Michael, but please don't inflame the situation.

I do not wish to spread rumours, but since this has been brought up I want to clarify... TTW told me that they often get overflow from Manitoulin and there is an understanding between the two companies that some of these loads will be brokered out. I confirmed this with Manitoulin myself as I was very suspicious too.

The double brokering occurred when Road King took the load from TTW and gave it to me. Road King is the double brokering party here. From my perspective, neither Manitoulin nor TTW knew what Road King was doing.

To be clear, the folks I spoke with at Manitoulin and TTW were both very straight forward and honest professionals. They both handled this situation with class and expediency.

Sorry, but the truth is sometimes boring compared to fiction. No hush money here...

Yesterday I received a call from Nicolas at Road King. He identified himself as the Sales Manager and said he would get this resolved.

I spoke with Nicolas today, and although he initially suggested mailing me a cheque, I was able to convince him to send it to me today by courier in light of my difficulties in collecting. I received the cheque this afternoon.

Although Nicolas was very professional in his handling of this once he got involved, I have no trust and no faith in Road King as a company. I feel that if I did not have such a great ally at TTW putting the pressure on Road King, I would likely have waited much longer for their payment or not received it at all.
