Hey y'all...
I've done homework in a previous life on dispatch for 50-150 truck fleets, but never for <10 truck fleets.
Any advise?
I am outgrowing my ACCESS/EXCEL homegrown dispatch, or rather outgrowing the failure to have them link to each other and accounting.
Any experience with Link? others? I don't really care if it does fuel tax etc, thats all pretty easy...I just need better fingertip data and less repitition of entry.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We use ITS. It is $100/month and easy to use. We too are under 10 trucks so it suits us just fine.
I would be interested in what others are paying/using.

Hi Dave,

We offer very affordable 1-user packages and are certified development partners with all of the popular accounting software developers.
If you'd like, please feel free to send me an email or give me a call, and I'll be happy to discuss the software and how it's priced with you.

I'd also be happy to quote anyone else looking for dispatch software, whether trucking or brokerage, as we offer trade-in discounts if you're moving from another vendor. No obligation, free, 30 day trials are available any time.

Dave,

Booking a demo with Chris will be worth the time invested. I saw it when we were looking and was quite impressed, pretty sure you will like it also.

Keep well,

Mike

Thanks Mike. I will send him an email. Call me old fashioned, or paranoid, but I am not yet comfortable with my database being held in cyberspace, and someone else holding the keys.
ITS and Link OPS, and I mean no disrespect to either, could potentially benefit from perusing a subscriber's data. Not saying they would, just saying they could.
I think I am going to try to find a solution that is kept on MY hard drive.

Dave, the only issue with keeping it on your hard drive is you have to keep backing it up.

The best would be to have a client server type software and have it backup to the cloud and maybe to another hard drive in a different location, this way you are sure to keep everything safe.

As for the software itself, we made our own back in '88 and have kept making tweaks to it every year. We are changing now, trying to make our own again with new features, EDI, automation, least cost routing, client/carrier portals, rates, crm, etc all in one.

You can go web based software and still keep the data in house.

Web based is where the future is, so no matter where you are you can log in as long as you have internet access.

I'm of the same train of thought, we back up daily and I have the tape in my posession 24/7.

Keep in mind several of the software providers we met with (late last year and this year) offer both cloud and in house databases. Depending on what you 'pick' in the end and how many users you have, etc.. prepare for a server upgrade and the purchase of SQL server.

Set the backup to do a 'full' weekly over the weekend and partial daily and it's really not that cumbersome.

Dave, you have my number if you'd like some further 'off the record' thoughts on software, pros, cons, etc... It's 24 hours for you of course!

Keep well sir,

Mike

'Cloud' computing is definitely the wave of the future.

I have to agree that I would not want to go with Transcore, but it's my own selfish reasons. I think Rogers is getting too much money as it is, when they try to sell something else to me I want to kick them in the nuts!

Dave

We just finished paying for Dispatch mate from Infosite.

The software works really well for us . We have fewer than 10 trucks but do LTL with a few agents handling pick ups and deliveries.

The software can do a great deal more than we need. We simply got two of the many add on's available that we thought useful.

The 1st is a link straight into our Simply Accounting software. With the push of a button the Accounts receivable and payable are exported to simply. Link's software promised this feature but was cumbersome and did not work well at all.

The 2nd feature is a direct link to ACE via Crimson logic. The manifests are done in a jiffy.

The support is also very good most problems resolved immediately. Others over a bit of time , but resolved as opposed to Link's dispatch.

The one feature that I found most software's cannot handle is accumulating various orders at an agent and then interlining it to your terminal.
Make sure that feature actually does what you expect.
We had Link's LTL dispatch before and that feature could not be carried out at all.

We have found DispatchMate from Infosite to be very good. As Alx2 stated, the support has been readily available and fairly prompt when needed. Our use has been on the brokerage side of the industry and it has performed well, especially its interface with Simply Accounting. I would recommend having a look at it for your needs.

You shouldn't worry about cloud-based solutions. Any Canadian-based tech company that wants to compete in the transportation market would never, ever do anything to hurt the relationship, and would keep your information secure.

Its all about trust. Choose a company thats intimate with trucking, one that you can get to know inside and out, that does more than just dispatch, and will grow as you grow.

Feel free to give me a call. 204-958-5389 or 866-718-3908.

30 years in this business...trust is in pretty short supply without substantial reference checking. :)
As far as getting intimate...I am hoping our conversations are few and far between...I am looking for fault free software...any problems I could possibly have should be well ironed out and beta tested by those with a larger truck count, interlining, cross docking etc.
All my old vendors are far too big for my little venture, so I am working with some of those mentioned here.
I will report back what I find out.

Absolutely. A solid base of customers you know that will attest to the security and reliability of the product is a must.
