Good afternoon,

I have a question regarding a move that i have at the moment.

I have a load that is 18'1' wide moving from BC to Montreal. The carrier that i had contracted has been informed by Nova Permits that new restrictions have taken effect in the Thunder Bay, ON area on road 11 & 17 (1 day prior to the pick up) and that he can no longer pass until beginning of October.

Has anybody else heard anything like that.

Thanks

I have not heard that...usually width restrictions for a certain period in the summer are due to construction, but there does not appear to be any at the moment in that area. However, here is the MTO website for that kind of stuff...it can be useful Trucks and Buses

Having just been through that stretch myself two weeks ago I can say that there is a great deal of construction currently underway just east of Thunder Bay ( right by the Terry Fox statue for those who know where that is ) and there is one spot where I doubt an 18ft wide load would pass as the highway is currently configured.

we have just recently moved a super load through there at over 20' wide. it did take a lot of negotiation with MTO and a traffic management plan to be able to pull it off.

WHY would a carrier deal with a permit service on a load of that magnitude? They should be dealing with the MTO directly and not through a middle man.

Hwy 17 has a handful of single lane bridges including a temporary "Bailey Bridge" in the Marathon area. Not sure what 11 is like.

Thanks for the help.

We have attempted to deal directly with MTO previously, but got nowhere with them. We are going to try the email that you posted, hopefully it will help.

But right now we are looking to put it on a barge as of Duluth, MN to bypass those restrictions.

it sounds like the carrier you have chosen, did not do thier due diligence prior to loading this freight. this should have never been an issue had they done thier homeowork. the planning, routing, approvals and permit issuance should always be completed for the entire trip prior to loading.

The permits (as well as routing, escort ...) have all been received prior to the loading. But a new restriction took effect a couple days before the loading. Lucky us that it didn’t happen after, if not we would of been screwed.
