Cheap Freight Of The Day??

I guess if you don't have to pay for licensing, fuel, tolls, repairs, equipment and drivers you would think so.

I've been offered $800-$900 for this lane, so compared to that, it isn't so bad.

I would have thought they would have offered less, so in consideration, it didn't seem so bad.

Toronto to Boston------ $100 in tolls $$275 to driver (mileage, picks, drops), $$250 to fuel, add insurance, tires and admin fees. G.Roch you must be be # 1 carrier for CH if you can bypass minimum expenses to haul their cheap freight.

I think what happens with Boston and other northern East Coast freight is that some brokers look at it as comparable to other outbound loads. It is not like freight going to the midwest or Chicago or other places where there is an overabundance of loads to come home. The tolls are outrageous, you may very well have to dead-head your truck quite a distance to pick up a reload and that reload doesn't pay per mile what you would expect compared to other places. I get calls every single day for loads going to Albany NY area even, and brokers cannot understand why we won't take them. Carriers stay away from these loads because no matter how hard we try to explain to brokers that this lane is rated differently, we still get the phone calls offering us $950 to go to Albany. You just can't cover your costs, let alone turn a profit. Sorry, to ramble on...but I get why $1200 to Boston is really insulting our intelligence.

read the words, they can offer freight, doesn't mean we actually take it... lol

I didn't mean to insult anyone, just saying people call and offer cheap freight all the time, we just hang up and move on 99% of the time.

I saw the $1200 offer being better than the $900 offer we got. That's it!

I know, G Roch, I was just trying to put in words why us carriers get so frustrated with this lane :0)

don't get me wrong, I hate offering cheap freight...

I guess it's all about how we offer it to you, if it fits a need it could be good for you, if not, just say no lol

It all has to do with a carrier's actual balance.

For some carriers, $1200 to Boston is OK, and even $900 to Albany is OK. Depends what your model is. For the right carrier they're doable, I know this for sure.

If it's not your lane, it's not. But I have to say, $800-$900 to Boston is laughable ... freight from there is one of the only places where I can still say it's cheap.

Ahem.

Guys, maybe keep ther personal attacks to each other via PM?

GR - I love your insightful posts (most of them for sure are great to read).

PTR - you run a tight ship and do awesome work on the road, thank you and keep it up. I like your ideas and comments on here too...

Please both of you - enough with the school yard bickering.

Happy Friday!!!

either way, we all know some freight is cheap.

if you want it to change, say no to the cheap loads.

eventually it will change!

I know we are trying to re-adjust, but it doesn't happen overnight!

Ahem.

he started it... lol

G Roch, in a previous post you said "don't get me wrong, I hate offering cheap freight...", and then in the last post you said "if you want it to change, say no to the cheap loads." Maybe you should heed your own advice then, and not accept the cheap freight from the US load brokers and try re-brokering it off on the CDN Carriers. ;)

our business is different, no one actually knows what we do.

BACK ON TOPIC!

It would be my suggestion to the Moderators of this site, that if it can be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, any member who actively engages in double brokering (carrier or broker) should have their posting privileges suspended. Regardless of what you might think of brokers in general, anyone who knowingly takes a load from either a broker or a load posting board and then offers that freight to others as if it was his own is engaging in unethical behaviour. My 2 cents for a Friday afternoon.
