Oversize High & Wide

Ahh, the joys of oversize. It is funny how rules are interpreted.
We end to end oversizes all the time, but read some permits and you scratch your head. I had an idiot (OPP and ex MTO) in ONTARIO tell me the ladder I took off a combine and laid on the deck to make it narrower made it a divisible load, and Ontario permits say "non divisible loads". He also said that my permit was for a "non load bearing neck" on the float.
Some states specify other pieces can be hauled if not increasing the overdimension, some don't say anything, some say "non-divisible". Its a crap shoot.
All I know is I would rather be 20 feet wide than 15 tall.
And, I think Ohio should annex I-75 to the bridges so we don't have to deal with Michigan. No routing on overheights there, you're on your own. Talk about pucker factor. I've seen the MIDOT website and the signs on overpasses disagree by 4 inches.

One of the reasons my big equipment sits in the yard is too many out there are willing to do too much for too little.

Probably doesn't factor in height pole car for entire route to Alta border for being over 14 foot high. Oh well - know I'm not going to do - especially at the rate. It's probably movin to get more out of a legal load.

My rant for the day.

Good Luck to ya & don't forget to DUCK.

Yeah we lose big bids once in a while because some yahoo is doing it for $2000-$4000 then we need to cover our carrier's cost.

Then we find out its one of "those guys" in the US

Lol

I have to agree with rickwill on this. Sure there are ways to load OD shipments on just about anything if you try hard enough, but why, when if you use the right equipment in the first place (double drop for anything over 10'H for example) you avoid the headaches that seem to accompany almost every OD load. Why make a potential legal load an over dimensional one if you don't have to?

Maybe you should post it on U-Ship, then that moron with the Kenworth could haul it and we could all get a good laugh out of it.

Why you may ask? Because some guy 1 time sent in a step deck, got some over height permits and got the load done.

The 1st load I moved was just the 1 piece 131" High and not wide. I sent in a DD and got shit because for whatever reason they want it to move on step decks. What am I supposed to do? I can't tell the customer it cannot be done because it can.. So I'm stuck quoting the customer with the equipment they want me to send them... At least they're not asking for Dry Vans! LOL

so they are dock loading this, its probably why they can't use double drops.

JNS...yup, it puts you in a spot.
I seem to be pretty lucky...the guys I deal with don't try to tell us how to haul it, they are just happy to get it from A to B without the top getting knocked off.
If you tell them it won't fit, or this works better because of that, they believe.

I can't wait until the Brampton-ites figure out how to order permits. (Apologies to those of you from Brampton...you know what I mean), OD will go the way of gravel and garbage

I don't believe so. They loaded the DD no problem when I sent it in that 1st time.
The only thing I can think is that they're afraid of the DD trailer showing up with the hole in the middle and all the road spray will get up in the machine.. Other than that I can't see any other reason as most of the quotes all hover around the same price.
