I received this second hand (not from Markel directly):
Identity thieves using new names
Markel has received notification that identity thieves are at it again, and using new fake identities to steal loads.
Currently, a group of thieves are operating under the names CIM Logistics and Northland Express to make off with loads, so please be wary of the names and legitimacy of the carriers you are working with—particularly if they are operating under either of these names.
If you have received a call from one of these entities, please advise our Tips Line at 1-888-70CRIME.
Anyone who may have information in relation to this matter is asked to call their local police department or 911. Information may also be left anonymously by calling the Markel Tips hotline, at 1-888-70CRIME (702-7463).

Got the same notification. Glad I did not give him the load after my intial post of July 6.
Used UPS contact as a reference and had not heard of them. But said it sounded very much like another company they used...CMF I believe he said.
The guy at CIM passed himself off as Issaak Unger. Checked internet and there is someone with last name of Unger at CMF. Seemed odd that both represented out of Blenheim - used phone# 888-917-9950 fax 888-257-9220 and a cell # no longer in service.
