Just curious if anyone has compared their safersys score to the new CSA 2010 BASIC score?

If so do you find any difference in the scoring. ie: are your numbers higher or lower in one.

As a broker what will be your criteria for using or not using a specific carrier? With safestat you just had to look at their number and it was easy to decide. Now with CSA 2010 there are 7 BASIC scores to take into account.

Any thoughts on this?

Are the BASIC scores public yet somewhere?

Unfortunately they will not be public until Dec 2010. However if you are a carrier you can compare your own scores or even possibly start asking carriers to supply a printout of there BASIC scores.

There's a reason for it not being available to the public yet is because they are still entering data into the carriers profiles. So I wouldn't be relying on the information as of yet.

The carrier profiles are updated monthly the last update was September 24th which mirrors the same information that is in safersys.org.( at least for my company) It is not made public yet because they want each carrier to review their information and ensure that their MCS-150 is update with the proper mileage and trucks.

I don't believe there will be much change when it roles out to the public in December.

CSA2010 Scores

I was under the impression these scores were not going to be made public - I guess that has changed - I thought there was going to be a pin number provided to carriers and they would decide if they wanted to share the info or not???????

This is what is on the CSA 2010 site.

CSA 2010 Data Preview

Commercial motor vehicle carriers may now view their individual safety assessments on the Data Preview Website. This updated Website provides motor carriers with information on where they stand in each Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Category (BASIC) based on roadside data and investigation findings. Each motor carrier’s BASIC assessments are visible only to them (and to enforcement staff) until December of 2010. In December, assessments will be made available to the public. Also, enforcement agencies will use these assessments to prioritize the Agency’s enforcement and compliance assistance workload. By providing carriers with this information now, FMCSA’s approach gives carriers the earliest possible opportunity to improve compliance.

FMCSA is providing motor carriers with this early look at the new Safety Measurement System (SMS) so they can see their performance data, can address safety compliance issues right away and can update and verify their data online. Release of this safety performance information underscores FMCSA’s commitment to data integrity and the motor carrier industry’s responsibility for ensuring commercial vehicle safety. This important step is designed to allow motor carriers to identify and address unsafe behaviors that can lead to crashes. What can motor carriers do now to prepare for the new system? Motor carriers should look at their assessment on the Data Preview Website, identify any data mistakes, verify and update their motor carrier census data, in particular power units (PU) and vehicle miles travelled (VMT) on the MCS-150 form, and take the necessary steps to correct unsafe driver and/or company safety practices.

Ours was showing the update on Sept. 20th but there was a lot of info missing regarding the scores. Made a few inquiries and was told that info will be added daily for carriers and the completion date for all info was Dec. 1st. Apparently the info for each carrier is only being added bit by bit to the profiles, so the scores as of right now are not completely accurate and aren't expected to be until Dec. 1st

I am sure some carriers are going to be in big trouble when this officially rolls out. The last thing you want is to be targeted at the scale.

The carrier profile/record is available and has been for years to enforcement through safer-sys. I personally believe it's a crock...similar to Ontario's CVOR system and the ragtag carriers are still running trucks in Ontario.
