Same old tricks - are these guys still open?

I get a call today from a wonderful carrier that we value immensely. As it turns out, she hauled a shipment for SMG in DECEMBER and still has not been paid. The short version is that she handled the ON-PQ portion of a BC-PQ load. I’ve long paid SMG for this shipment of course (and have cut ties months ago)…

I understand SMG is still open – seemingly. The 905-595-4603 is still in service, I just can’t get anyone to answer the line (of course). Someone help Peggy out, is there an alternate contact number for Mr. Gill (the owner)?

How many more carriers are going to contact me advising they hauled part or full shipments of mine and are not being paid by SMG?

SMG – how’s about you pay your contracted carriers so that they are compensated for the work they have completed? 7 MONTHS AGO!! How’s that for a solid plan?

Thanks for assistance, I’m sure Peggy is monitoring this thread for help (contact info).

Let me know if you have any questions at all.

Mike

Not looking to be confrontational but when you gave this freight to SMG was it because they were the cheapest OR did they have a good strong business relationship forged in the past?

Happy Friday.

I'm not sure if you did any business with these guys, but 'back in the day' they were actually a decent over the road provider. They handled 84 shipments for us over the time that we worked together (B&G and SMG). I didn't have an order hit my desk (the large issues of course come to me). No claims, hardly a late delivery (and if so, hours not days). Over all, not a bad provider. This was BEFORE their philosophy of how to handle their business changed (leading to the current situation they are in). Of course as soon as we discovered that they were rebrokering, gonzo!

This is not my first rodeo, I'm well aware that 'cheapest' usually means not the best (or cleanest) equipment, not the best maintenance schedule, not the best drivers, etc... If we gave all of our business to the 'most economical' providers, I'd have more issues and less customers that's for sure.

If you have any other questions about my business practices, please PM me and we could discuss further.

My concern right now is to help Peggy find a way to get paid, do you have any information that can help her? If so, please share.
