Anyone have any experiences with Joyce Express in Maple, Ontario as a carrier? good / bad service?

Screwed over by Joyce Express

I was screwed by Steve at Joyce Express last week and lamented that there was no forum in which to express but then found this site.

:)

I posted a load on LoadLink going from Winnipeg to Cedar Falls IA last Thursday morning that was ready for pick up either Thursday afternoon or Friday morning.

Steve called me and said he had a driver en route to Winnipeg with a load and that he could load it Thursday afternoon and deliver on Friday.

Great, so I told him the load was his.

Then he called me back Thursday afternoon and said his driver was delayed and wanted to know how late he could pick up the load. I told him 4pm. He then told me there was no way he could make that time.

He then proceeded to complain that the rate we had fairly negotiated was not good enough.

Then he complained that he would now have to lay-over his driver in Cedar Falls for the weekend because he couldn't offload until Monday, despite the fact that it was HIS FAULT he made a promise he couldn't keep. After more complaining he agreed to honour our original agreement.

Then Friday morning around 10am I called him to see what time his driver would be picking up the load and he hadn't even bothered to call the shipper to arrange an appointment and proceeded to tell me that there was "some sort of problem" at his previous destination in Winnipeg (the Calgary load) and that he didn't think he wasn't going to be able to empty his trailer for the run to Cedar Falls.

So after calling 30 leads off of LoadLink I was finally able to find another carrier that could do the delivery, a day late and at the price I had agreed with the customer on.

So all this aggravation and time wasted and I was "just" able to break even on the load.

One of the carriers I called in desperation told me that it sounded like there was no delay and that Joyce had probably found a better paying load.

Then I happened to notice that he had a truck available out of Winnipeg on LoadLink that was posted at 8:30AM... which means he didn't have any intention of doing the load to Cedar Falls because he was already shopping his trailer around.

I then tried to give him yet another benefit of doubt by giving him an hour or two to resolve the issue and he blew me off. When I told him I'd never use him again and tell anyone I knew not to use him, he simply didn't care.

That's not the type of carrier I want to trust mine or my customers' loads to.

Apologies for the length of this post, but I want everyone to know the Joyce Express screwed me and they will screw you.

Thanks for the follow up. They did end up handling 1 load for us. Picked up Monday in BC and delivered Friday in Toronto....no real issues to speak of.

I used Joyce Express for the first time last week. I had them pickup 2 skids for me in Saskatoon, and he told me they would be back for late Thurs/ or Fri morning. The freight did deliver to my dock on Friday morning, a little later then he promised, but there was also a bit of snow storm that morning.... I did have an uneasy feeling throughout this load though. He never seemed to really know where his driver was, and could never get a hold of him, I was nervous, but thankfully freight did deliver on time.

No real issues

Steve just did a team load from ON to AB for me and drivers were on time, no issues.

I'am just reading between the lines but what kind of rate per/mile were you offering here Logistica, I know it may not have been proper to take the load and dump, but I know there are brokers offering loads well below the cost to operate.

Fair question. The rate was $750 CAD all-in and the mileage is 673 miles.

I realize it's not a great paying load but he agreed to it knowing the mileage and as far as I'm concerned, you agree to something, you do it at the rate you agreed to.

just 2 cents. If you don't take your truck post off the night before and you log on to load link the next am it will update that truck. So he may have been going to do the load but had not taken the truck off yet. Or he came to his senses. No wonder it took 30 calls.

Martini, did you see if the trailer and tractor had Joyce Express on them? We recieved a call from Joyce Express looking for Accounts Payable and the call originated from California. Things that make you go...Hmmmmm????

I just went and asked my dock guy but he doesnt remember. Sorry! I do remember that morning we were in a rush for the freight and offered to go pick it up off his dock and I was told that we couldnt because they dont have a dock, just a yard. The driver showed up to our dock with the freight, but no paperwork, he was asking our dock guys for the paperwork??? I was nervous throughout that whole shipment, just little things didnt add up, but the freight got here the day it was supposed too.

I just had a load where Joyce changed the pickup appointment twice and never picked it up. So I got nervous.

I checked the paperwork and the freight is not double brokered ... although one fax came through Conroy Trucking, wondering if they're related.

Obviously they're taking loads and shopping around ... maybe owner operators that are not on forced dispatch? Doesn't matter ... a deal is a deal.

We don't forget.

Anyone try and get a hold of Joyce lately? Phone & Fax number listed on Link not in service, yet posting today.

I have a load with them right now and can not get a hold of anyone there via email, fax or phone. Does anyone know how else to get a hold of them? Its been since Friday and their phones are cut off.

try email....joyceexpress@bellnet.ca

ps...something doesn't seem right here....
