Wrong Shipment Crossed Border

Oh, I see. What other options we had without informing the Customer and Shipper?
None, you would have had to inform the customer and shipper if they were the owner of the goods. I am surprised the Canada customs broker allowed you to become the IOR for goods that were not owned by you.

Monday Funday… ran into a bit of a customs mess over the weekend.

One of our drivers accidentally hooked up to the wrong trailer they were supposed to move a shipment from the U.S. into Canada, but instead took freight that had already been imported into Canada and was scheduled for delivery within Canada today. That shipment ended up getting re-exported and crossed back into the U.S., under the entry that was actually meant for the correct load they were supposed to haul.

Now the wrong freight is back in the U.S., the right freight is still in Canada, and we’ve got a mismatched customs entry filed. I’m currently working with our U.S. customs broker to get the incorrect entry canceled and refiled so we can deliver those goods, and also coordinating with our Canadian broker to handle the re-import of the freight back into Canada.

Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Do I need to send anything directly to CBP or CBSA, or can the brokers handle the full correction on both sides?

Appreciate any advice or experience, especially if someone has been through this mess.

Hi
We had to file an MDR (MANIFEST DISCREPANCY REPORT) with the CBP / CBSA at the Port of Entry... we did it once for having a shortage and once for an incorrect trailer crossing over. I would check with your customs broker if this stillmis the process - thsi was about three years ago

The wrong trailer you had crossed, was that freight that was to be delivered in Canadat? were you fined by CBP?

Broker is currently working on canceling the US entry and got me to provide some documents and also a statement on company letterhead.

yes it was a canada only shipment - so essentially there was no duty. We were not fined, as we discovered it right away at Grand Forks when driver stopped to fuel
