Did a load for broker drop and hook , we delivered the load returned trailer to carrier , done . Our trailer comes back 2 days later .Carrier doesn’t return it , they keep and use our trailer . shows going to Halifax / Pa/ va / Missouri roughly 11,000 kms and used for 6 weeks ..

Sent broker a bill for miles and rental . Got what I expected we can’t control the trailers . We have no control over the carriers and using others trailers . They just run the lane but little knowledge or care of trucking companies equipment

Any suggestions , or that’s just the trucking world we live in.. fight and survive another day …

We run a ton of drop trailer programs with our own equipment. It happens and sucks.

What facility did you drop it at? Was it a large one like Amazon/Walmart etc? Or was it a smaller shipper? Large ones usually have protocols that stop this from happening without someone giving an okay. Small ones... its the wild west, especially with open yards.

This is going to be a fight between you and the carrier who used the equipment unfortunately. Do you know who it is?

Good luck getting a dime out of the carrier hell you will be lucky if you do not have to go get the darn thing as that seems to be the norm with us we deliver ABC carriers trailer to them but they say of your yard is too far well Bolton is too far for me with a Mississauga delivery but was part of the deal so live up too it. Good Luck but I would not spend a lot of time on it as good money chasing bad IMHO.

contact the shipper - complain about the broker (unless you get 100% of business from them) - show up at the FMCSA-listed address of the carrier - file as a stolen trailer with the police in the jurisdiction of the carrier's address - contact the the insurance of the above mentioned carrier and tell them they stole a trailer - insurance policy can be found via FMCSA or via the broker.

Let us know who the carrier is so that we don't step on the same rakes.

Wait until you get a 407 bill....
Like @artmax said, contact the shipper and put in a complaint. Hopefully it gets to the broker and they do a better job of managing this stuff. The first time and the last time this happened to us we had the OPP stop the truck and escort it to the scale. We gave the broker a lot of heads up, asked them to call the other carrier to stop at our yard but that didn't happen. We collected the trailer from the MTO with proof of original ownership and told the broker where they can tell the carrier to collect their freight and pay for the crossdocking/storage lein.

For some reason it never happened again with that broker and we continue to do some trailer switches for them.
