Gangrene in the industry

well they approach the C-suite executives with fancy presentations about service, analytics, and savings and it gets pushed down to the Transporation group at which point there is nothing they can do. I have heard over and over about “the directors mandate want to recoup some of the high transportation costs from 2022” over and over again from many Fortune 500 companies and smaller.

I suppose when these executives see an opportunity to save and make themselves look good for their own self benefit can’t help but say yes

I have heard plenty of transportation managers say they are wasting 100k+ on these bids. Some have corporate policies of having to bid their work every year.

It’s the new norm and Uber has been successful with it though acquiring some of these bid platforms and I won’t be surprised if we see more. I’m sure their own fleet and autonomous trucks are part of their long term play.

The same thing is happening with all these shippers wanting P44 and tracking.
Yup. The long term play is autonomous trucks. Just like with the ride-shares. You'd probably only see physical drivers on first and final mile when it comes to fruition.

Though look what happened with XPO - the original goal was actually to be a broker the size of CHR, but they ended up heavy in assets and even spun the brokerage off as a seperate entity.

The old Transplace unit is probably the only unit on the Uber Freight side that actually makes money right now.

does it though? they'ev had pretty public rounds of layoffs. I tried to give UF a shot and see what it was all about. Lets just say it never panned out, curious if asset folks on here have tried it and what the experience was.

I feel the cost of capital will catch up with them. 1.3 billion revenue down 17% with adjusted IBITDA loss of 14 million for 2023.

Probably from the brokerage unit but not the SaaS unit. Once the investment into the IT is done, it's a cash cow actually. Even when it's sold without the consultation, and I'm pretty sure that a lot of the bigger customers are doing just that.

Till the oil well dries up they will be chugging along lol. Seeing as Uber made some money finally.

Saw them at the booth at TruckWorld Mississauga a couple of years ago and it didn't seem appropriate for any carrier that has a fleet. Seemed geared more toward Driver Inc guys.

UF is no good on the asset side, crappy rates and take forever to pay. not worth the hassle.
