Where are the final destinations?
We don't have authorities to drive in Ukraine.

I think most people here are a bit surprised to learn that a Military load would be posted on LoadLink and brokered to a carrier that had zero history of service with said broker. Add in how many times this load was (potentially) brokered, and it's a recipe for disaster. Lessons to be learned, for sure.

I think ultimately, Bollore being who they are. Likely has a contract with the military to move these right into Ukraine.

They gave it to who they thought was a legit/trusted partner on the trucking side to get it to the port, who then double brokered and caused this disaster.

Seen this happen to JB Hunt and copper loads. Gave it to a carrier who had done tons of loads in the past, got into a tight spot and decided instead of giving it back that they would broker to provide service. Ended up with 4 loads getting stolen.

Guys it's 25 bucks to sign up to Merx and you too can broker military loads! Then using loadlink or more specifically blind carbon copy emails. Rates are usually weak at best - check the BOL military loves to type the price paid to the broker;)

My faith in a Ukrainian victory over the Russians has been shaken to its very core. How tragic that a slipshod, careless Canadian freight broker and an even more disorganized Canadian carrier could do more damage to the Ukraine war effort than the mighty armed forces of the Russians. If this whole thing wasn’t so sad, it could almost be funny, in a Keystone Cops kind of a way! How do some people stay in business!

In my limited experience: I recall working in a manufacturing company where the jobs that were produced for the government incurred a 100% price increase from that of our other clients. It wasn't just because we could gouge them, it was because their jobs took immediate precedence over the manufacturing line, and QC tolerances were next to 0%. I do believe that there was more margin on the government deals but in that case you literally get what you pay for, expedited production and on time completion.

It was long enough ago it's not on my resume so don't bother going looking!

Keep well,
Mike

Listen, this thread is way off topic but I've been eating my popcorn and watching so let's let it go a while longer aye?

This is a little strange to me. We are a very small company, of course. But if I were in a position (I'm not) to arrange for the transport of military firearms, you can bet your bottom dollar I would have quoted that lane at top dollar based on the responsibility of the freight and the service required. I would have also paid top dollar to the best of the best carrier that I know would get the job done. That means extensive research on who the carrier is, their track record and authorities, a long-standing relationship with that carrier and one person working for that carrier that will take responsibility ie. the buck stops with him/her. I am very sorry that this happened to you Annie, but going forward, treat each load for what is it and what is required of you. There are loads of paper towels that you might give to some carrier to try them out, but not military firearms. Best of luck

Well said Chica!!!

I had a load one time of $12M of silver going to the Royal Canadian Mint. It was being escorted by the clients armed guards in transit. Guess what? We had only 3 employees in our company that knew about the move, we even cloned our dispatch software to another system so that no one internally knew about the move. The booking was done verbally, then by email and only the driver and a single dispatcher knew about what was being loaded on the trailer. We booked one of our best carriers and you're darn right we paid a premium price for the load!

The fewest parties possible knowing about what's going on is critical to sensitive moves.

For the record: we rang the bell hard when it delivered and announced to our colleagues what we accomplished only after delivery. Good times.

Keep well,
Mike

Can we actually believe the Army gave a load of weapons going to Ukraine to just anyone? Then this load seems Double , Tripled and who knows how many more times brokered to different carriers!

Loaders hit it right on the head with his posted comment!
Rest easy knowing the government gives loads of guns to the lowest bidder too.
