On July 21st I posted 4 skids going to the docks in Miami for furtherance to the islands. It was US Bonded freight so I not being US bonded needed to farm it out. I put the freight on the link and gave the freight to a company I had seen around at the rate they asked for. This was our first (and Last)time dealing with them.

They loaded the freight on time with a promise to deliver on Monday , Tuesday the 25th or 26th. I was off last week so my brother checked on them Monday they said it will deliver Tuesday it will be Wednesday etc all week. This is freight that has to meet a boat. Friday the freight was forgotten sorry it is on it's way it left on the truck for Monday delivery. I called Monday and was told the freight was delivered. Great send me a pod please as the customer needs to show the shipping company it is there so they can go find it to put it on the boat.. All week up to and including now I have yet to see said POD. The receiver in Florida just called the reason I had not gotten the POD is because it just delivered at 2.30 this afternoon. 14 day service to Miami???

Here is the what to do part. The shipper just told me he loaded it all on 3 skids not 4 and the trucking company still will not admit it or send me the POD. Do I short pay these clowns or do I tell them to pound salt or do I just out them..

Luckily the boat does not leave until tomorrow and the shipper and I built in that contingency just in case. Good thing we did or he would have no dishes bedding etc in his new house..

Or, ask them what their rate is for 14 day service to Miami? Obviously the rate you agreed upon was for service that you didn't receive. Also, out them. We need to know who the crappy service guys are so that we can give our freight to the good service guys.
PS. the 21st of July was a Monday. What day did they commit to deliver on originally, the following Monday, the 28th?

Opps was looking at August calendar dates where pick 21st for delivery buy 25th and it delivered today. I knew something looked wrong when I was typing it thanks for pointing it out. 13 day service not 14..

13 days or 14 days. Still way too long for an LTL delivery to Miami. I know you said the shipment was supposed to meet a boat.....but did the carrier ship it to Miami by boat as well???? LOL

Rob, 21 + 14 = 35, today is the 31st so it's more like 1o day service, this being LTL, I wouldn't freak out too much for the service part of the deal. Yeah it sucks that they weren't providing great service, but when moving partial freight things do happen and we all deal with it in the industry.

As for the 4 skids turning into 3 skids, if shipper & receiver confirm it was only 3 skids then just revise the rate as what you figure it should cost for 3 skids and send it to them or call them to go over that with the manager. Unless the weight was still pretty heavy (like 7000-8000lbs) then maybe it should still be considered 4 spots.

And for sure we'd all like to know who the carrier is on this one plz!

As a 3pl some would be looking for a reduction since it was 3 not 4 skids. As a carrier some would say, You booked 4 spots and when we got there it turned into 3 but since you booked 4 and I reserved 4 thats what you are paying for. Having said that, If the carrier has any sense of customer service and wants to do more business with you they should have called and told you that your order shrunk and asked for a revised confirmation for 3 spots.
As in most business disputes, the way people handle things is usually dependant on how bad they want to do business with you again.
It amazes me how some companies will lose a customer over a small charge, but spend 10 times that much trying to get a new one.
As far as the service issue, yes the service sucked, and even though they legally do not have to do anything about it they should at least try to make up for it somehow.
The trick in business is too try to make a bad situation better, not worse.

Rob,

We certainly all feel for you, there is not much worse than 'missing freight' with no answers at all to your customer besides the BS being spewed to you over the phone.

Without a call advising the volume differed from your original agreement it's reasonable to think that the provider in this case should offer a discount, barring weight (as Shawn mentioned).

Please out them so that I can advise the team here who will not handle any of our future o/b to FL.

I know hindsight is 20/20, this shipment if given to Blue Line Distribution (ltl, bonded, Miami dock, etc.) would have saved you some grey hair.

Have an awesome Friday all, and remember to rest up and be safe this weekend. Enjoy the time with family, we don't have them all forever.

Keep well,
Mike

We would pay them the agreed rate even though the service was crappy, block them and tell everyone not to deal with them. In hindsight you always get what you pay for, if you saved a couple hundred by taking a chance on a carrier you never heard of..............you got what you paid for. But you have to pay the full amount, that way no one can ever come back on you or try to sully your reputation with short pay stories. It did get delivered and no damage was done.
