What constitutes "double brokerage"?

If MacDonalds hires me directly to take a load of lettuce to another Mcdonalds shop I can use whatever carrier I want to deliver the lettuce.............If Martin Brower (freight broker) representing MacDonalds asks me to take the load I have to haul it myself or i would be re-selling or double brokering to another carrier.

sorry I disagree with this example as Martin Brower is not just a FB for McDonalds or any of their clients and they do use the services of carriers and brokers.

I think if everyone did their job.
i.e. if a broker has a load and find a carrier rather than sit around being lazy and wait for someone to do the job for them and a carrier that someone else found for broker
and also a carrier not just sitting in wait for someone to contact them for a load and actually did their job and did a search to find a load then...Well maybe there wouldn't be double brokering
so I think if someone else is doing everyone eleses job then why shouldn't they get paid for it..(As long as they pay the carrier)
So hense i call it more helping each other out..
Again as long as all parties get paid
Sounds like you are trying to push this co-brokering nonsense I have been hearing lately.

No not trying to push re-brokering
just need clarity and I don't really think anyone can clear this up

Here it is,

If you bill either shipper or receiver directly and get another carrier to do it = Brokerage

If you bill anybody BUT a direct shipper or receiver ie another broker carrier etc you are double brokering.

Get it now.

A regular brokerage transaction involves three parties...a customer, a broker and a carrier. If you add in another broker or another carrier to this transaction, it is called double brokering. My God, if all of these examples don’t explain it, nothing will.

I can clear it up for you. I have had many loads double brokered and the original carrier doesn't even touch the load and sells it for cheaper. They make money off of the load cant tell you where the load is and typically don't arrive on time. The original carrier doesn't pay the carrier they double brokered the load to. I have a personal list of companies that are crooked and will say or do anything to take a load from you and not do it properly. I currently have two loads that were double brokered. Neither have delivered. I called the carrier that took the double brokered load and sent him the confirmation and told the original carrier that the load is no longer theirs. I will pay the carrier that hauls the load not someone who passes the buck to make a buck. It makes me sick to see how many trucking companies will double broker loads and continue to lie about where the freight is because they have no idea. I get a kick out of a carrier that will double broker a load and think the other person on the other end of the phone call doesn't know.
