Wal-mart receives fine for employee death

The law (keeping the floor clear of obstructions) sounds stupid until something like this happens. It must have been a serious fall. He wasn't watching out, but at the end of the day Walmart is responsible for ensuring the safety of their employees. If they're smart they won't fight it.. someone died here and 60K is chump change for them.. live and learn and do a better job next time.

Not a surprise. Wal-Mart is not known for treating their employees very well.

As in everything the people who are in charge make the atmosphere.
I think that WalMart just decided that it would be much too expensive to contest this. 60K would be the least expensive avenue.
as far as the Walmart in Saguenay that Closed because they tried to unionize you must understand that the population from that area are a little 'special' Highly unionized the old fashioned way. You know, like back in the day when it was the Mafia protecting everyone and anything for a hefty price. We have had white, french canadians called Nigger at some of the paper plants in that area. We will not load in a unionized shop in that region. NO one deserves to be called that and I'm sorry for actually writing out that whole word.
They are also the region that keeps the PQ alive in Quebec...

Walmart has had issues with unions for over a decade now. They are very anti-union.

I would feel worse for the employee who died. He probably is a part-time employee without life insurance and no work coverage. What is $60,000 to Walmart? What is a life to an employee.

It is commonplace in retail to treat the human resources like garbage ... low pay, low hours so the employees aren't considered full time, no benefits etc. This is why it is rare to get good customer service in a retail store.
