What rates are currently being charges for wait times at by carriers at customer for loading / unloading?
Thanks.

$50-$75 for dry van, more for speciality equipment.
it's the time that's more relevant now. People have mentioned this in other posts, carriers/driver outright refuse loads at shippers/consignees if they know there's WT there. The funds paid do not properly cover the loss of use.
Also, time allocation is coming down, 1 hour for 1 skid and 2 hours for palletized TL are coming to an end.

Keep well,
Mike

We had a truck sit 6 hrs, and broker (big Winnipeg carrier) told us they pay $40,per hour waiting time max 150..
Not sure what you can get in the real world for $ 40 per hour, plumber, eletrician , car detailer,. But a guess they value a truck driver and trailer at $40 per hour

Crazy

Wonder what that big carrier’s waiting time rate is for their own fleet? Good enough for the goose, should be good enough for the gander.

$75 (2 free hours) - we're letting the broker before load is accepted over the phone OR once load confirmation is received. If afterwards we hear ANY excuses = DNU list right the way dispute the fact how big/small and/or good/bad broker is.

Question when do you all max out on wait time? I pay $75 per hour after one hour on a lane I run, but there was an issue with customs and the driver had to wait from 19:00 until the following morning at 10:00 am, it was an actual custom issue with their system. Would you pay hourly from 20:00 until 10:00 am or pay as a layover I offered $500 but the carrier is wanting $1050 I find this way out of line, but would like someones else's input.

As a carrier, I would consider $500 fair compensation.

Hourly for all on duty time, layover if applicable (hopefully some of this actually goes to the driver so they can have a sweet dinner followed by a good night sleep).

Keep well,
Mike

It can be a little more complicated than "just waiting". If that 12 hour delay cost the carrier a work shift, then $1,050.00 is not out of line.

If the driver wasn't free to leave customs until 10:00am I don't think that $1,050.00 is unreasonable seeing as he's probably lost an entire day of revenue because of the delay, it's now set the drivers entire week behind by 14 hours which is an entire shift. And the average truck grosses at minimum that $1,050.00 per shift.

Your $500 seems very fair to me.

If its a customs issue why would you pay anything unless you were somehow responsible for the delay? If you had nothing to do with the delay I'd tell them to send their wait time invoice to customs.. :)

I am hoping this is your idea of humor? I have had brokers try and pull this kinda crap of how about a hundred dollar layover bs. How about the freight sits in my yard until you come to your senses? As a value added partner a freight broker should tell the customers this is black and this is white and you are paying as it is not in the trucking companies control and have your customer bill customs as they wanted the freight.

No "value added partnership" to preserve here anyway.. if there was they wouldn't be attempting to hang the entire amount of this on their customer (also not in their control).. If it were me.. and the carrier clearly valued a partnership with me, I'd expect to go 50/50 on the cost (not my fault or theirs) In this case.. where they've clearly demostrated that they don't value the relationship I'd be happy to tell them no.
