US Tariffs

I've seen some shipments going to the US from Canada, where the goods' COI is China... some of those tariff coded materials are getting hit with a combined 175% duties & tariffs. Sometimes the importer is paying, others it's the exporter.

All of us would benefit from sitting down with our customers and advising them that now is the time to review the shipping paperwork for cross border shipments that is being generated. Tariffs and HTS codes are not the only issue. Lately I have had negative experiences with paperwork not conforming with:
US19CFR193.92(7) - Lowest External Packaging Unit
US19CFR123.92(d)(9) - Precise description.

10 skids - FAK - 44000lbs doesn't cut it anymore.

US19CFR193.92(7) - Lowest External Packaging Unit
US19CFR123.92(d)(9) - Precise description.

Those two have been a thing for a long time; CBP is just now starting to enforce them more strictly to be a PITA. We have had to educate customers and their brokers on manifesting quantity.

Now part two of your statement is a crack up. Only problem, I don't think Don gives a crap.
He absolutely does not give a crap about anyone, or anything, else, and if, in the meantime, he bankrupts the good ole USA, then so be it.

I believe we have a front row seat to history my friends. I believe we are witnessing the end of an empire. What we are seeing today is the beginning of the end of the United States of America.
Granted it was a grand experiment, but like everything else, it does have a shelf life, and I believe the USA has come to the end of its best before date.
It is often said that in the history of mankind, no democratic republic has lasted more than 300 years. The USA is 249 years old. Tick Tock Tick Tock ...

From ChatGPT ...
Political philosophers like Plato, Polybius, and Montesquieu argued that political systems go through cycles:

  • Monarchy → Aristocracy → Democracy → Anarchy or Tyranny
  • Republics, sitting in the democratic part of the cycle, often overcorrect or rot from within over time.
The 300-year number isn’t magic — it’s just a benchmark for how long a republic might remain stable before corruption, factionalism, inequality, or power centralization threatens its existence.

TBH ... it's like watching the Youtube clip of that NYC helicopter crashing ... You know it's going to be horrible. You know people die when it hits the river. But, you can't stop watching. Human nature I guess.
It's quite possible that a number of us here won't actually see the USA take its last breath. Inevitable as it is, many of you younger folks will, and you will need to prepare for it. What that preparation looks like right now is hard to say. I do not envy you those coming days.

I wouldn’t count America out just yet. 90 years ago the same was said about Germany, and now they are Europe’s powerhouse. At the pace they’re going Trump and Company will likely self-destruct sooner than later. And then back to regular programming. Hopefully the dems are now hard at work behind the scenes to find a viable contender for president..hopefully they’re looking beyond the same rehash of ineffective candidates they’ve fielded in the last two or three elections.
