After months of delays building our own trucking tracking software, my company has decided to subscribe to one of the major tracking platforms? Does anyone have any preference regarding Macropoint vs. Far Eye vs Four Kites? Any other platforms you might suggest? Thanks

we use Motive for our ELD's which has tracking built in. Its tied to the truck and driver (through the app) works decent but their ping rates are about 60 to 120 secs, I'ev seen Samsara's as well and its pretty good with real time pings at around 5 to 10 seconds which is great. Of course this is a solution for your own equipment, for brokered loads tracing we rely on the carriers tracing link. Macropoint is ok but does it get glitchy at times and if your drivers phone's software is not updated or the app itself is not updated, its pretty much useless.

Thank you Melroy. I've also read that Macropoint can be spoofed so looking at alternatives. My guys say Four Kites is the best so I've set up a call with them on Monday. Appreciate your advice and have a nice long weekend.

I don't use Macropoint very often but when I do I have a 50% success rate for install and tracking.

We also have Trucker Tools and use it for US to US shipments, we have a very good success rate for install and tracking. For these loads, using tracking is mandatory for the load.

In my experience Canadian drivers do not want to be tracked on their personal cell phones but the US drivers are more cooperative.

I will always take the carriers GPS tracking over Macropoint and as mentioned above integration with ELD will solve many of the issues. Tracking the truck or driver has it limitations as the linehaul often drops in the trailer in the yard and the delivery is done by a local driver.

50% percent success rate is def. less than we are looking for but regardless thanks for the info.
I set up a demo with Trucker Tools for next week but on their website they say the are capable of tracking loads both in the US and Canada (cross-border). Have you experienced otherwise? Thanks

Trucker Tools is great, easier for drivers to use compared to MP and the ELD integration is amazing. We get an email once they start tracking and we can manage the tracking as well and turn it off once the load is delivered so ELD isn't tracking to the next load.

Canadian carriers are less familiar with Trucker Tools so I dont use it very often as I'm focused on domestic Canada and cross border with mostly Canadian carriers but it will track in Canada as well as it is also cell phone based.

Trucker Tools is a better app for tracking, I dont use it very often but have a coworker that uses it for approx. a dozen loads per week, all domestic US.

Any cell phone tracking system can be spoofed, I shared a link on another thread on this.

The challenge is the carriers' spoofing a cell based tracking system are criminals and they are going to steal the load or they are "consolidators" and combining several loads into one trailer or intermodal unit or double brokers .....

They think like criminals and we do not so that puts us at a disadvantage. The issue is vetting the carrier and keeping the bad actors from hauling your loads. By the time they spoof the cell phone it is already too late.

guys, it's 2024 - if you have the rates you get the service - it is always as simple as that.

If you have $600 on 800 miles then yes you get the broken truck without the cellphone (if you get a truck at all) - it's been like this for over a decade. All these programs do the same work - the issue is instead of working on rates we are working on carrier compliance - whereas if we work on the rates than we can elevate ourselves above the "shady market'' and onto a market of carriers. Sooner or later reliability becomes more important than price.

In house developed and build tracking utilized by A&B. A properly developed mobile applicaton cannot be spoofed via mobile phone mock locations, developer tools, or any third party software/hardware or user provisioned app. App will not work on rooted devices, and is only run our on company issues mobile devices to drivers with a strict kiosk. We spent a good bit of time building a proper vehicle / driver tracking solution with redundant data streams, location pings every 10 to 60 seconds... dispatch configurable. AWS data feed aggregation, Android 12/13 platform, runs in background as device admin service on devices, and inhouse MS SQL Server for reporting, and real time local data access.

with on going costs less than $2.00 per truck per month.... and the data is all owned and stored by us, it was a huge win for A&B.
