Hi all,
We are a quebec carrier, 5 trucks at present, should be 8 soon. We are looking for the most cost efficient and practical way to track our trucks during the time they are traveling. We would like a PC interface where we can see all their positions on a computer monitor (on a city map) as they make their rounds. Can anyone throw some ideas at me of where I should look. We are currently Bell mobility customers and i don't think the 10-4 network has what we want. I know a cell phone based system would only follow the phone and not the unit, but if there are any phone-based systems, it may be an option for us.
Any ideas are welcomed.
Thanks in advance to all.

Regards
Lee

PeopleNET would be a good solution for you. You should also be able to purchase GPS tracking devices at stores like The Source or places like that which will allow you to track trucks but would not allow you to do messaging. PeopleNET is very simple and has some good features, like letting you know speeds and sudden stops but has a really clunky interface. It does map location history and label with unit numbers though. Shaw Tracking did contact me the other day and they are good too. I've used Shaw before and it's better than PeopleNET mostly. Plus if you're a subscriber, you are eligible to trade freight among other Shaw subscribers through the Shaw Alliance and track their trucks if they have your freight.

Fleet Complete

You may want to take a look at Fleet Complete by TELUS.

They install the units in the truck and it works with their cell network. There are a few dead spots, but the tracking system works well and there are many helpful data tracking capabilities included.

Thanks for the tips guys, I will check them both out!
Much appreciated,
