Looks sketchy to me too. Pls keep us posted. Ask if they have a Freight Broker Surety Bond and see how they handle the question. I'm not saying they have to have one to be worthy but how they answer the question may give you some insight.

Update:
Called 5 out of 6 references - two answered with positive references and said they have been working with them for 6 years
3 didn't answer the phone - maybe due to it being Christmas Eve

Paid without any hassle at 42 days - assuming the extra days were because they mailed a check
