I wanted to start a list of carriers price gouging the market to profit during this pandemic.
I really hope my thread is the only one I see.

Traffic Team quoted me $1000.00 for 2 standard skids- 48*40*55 @ 1100lbs total
From Etobicoke, ON to Santa Fe Springs, CA
Dock to Dock
No Delivery Appointment
Commodity: Plastic
Standard service

What about this surprises you about this outfit ?

And... Can they even run one of their bashed up hunks of junk into California ? :p

HI Diesel:

Please give us a call on this lane.. We run this lane weekly.

i dont think thats a bad rate, the thing is that CA is under lock down, the back haul isnt what it was.
also we are paying drivers more to go to these lanes for our clients

But when brokers offer 1700 out of Dallas a month ago it is okay? Supply and demand is the way I hear it when it is the broker giving a cheap rate but gouging when a carrier gives a big one. LMAO My drivers are out there risking their lives everyday year in and year out long before Covid and carriers have taken it on the chin since 1st 1/4 of 18 and when the pendulum swings in our way we are gouging???

Great points from PT INC and Rob.
Rob- I can't speak for the brokers selling loads out of Dallas for $1700.00. But what I can say regarding this matter is, I am a carrier that runs TX with 75% of my fleet including Dallas-Fort Worth. We wouldn't move a load northbound for $1700.00.

PT- I can argue the whole US is on lockdown; does that mean we should be paying outrageous pricing to maintain the flow of the supply chain? We may agree to disagree which makes this conversation interesting. But I was able to cover this shipment for $550.00 with a reputable carrier.

Yeah I agree. Market is really up in the air right now. I don't really consider that price gouging, just taking advantage of supply and demand right now.

A lot of brokers do it to us every summer when freight dries up so I don't see the big issue here. Maybe you don't like the shoe being on the other foot, so to speak.

There are dozens of smaller US based brokers that offer complete dog crap rates, going from all over. Even some larger ones try to gouge you as much as possible. TQL is a really bad one, Future Trans, Arc Best JB Hunt to name a few.

My TL rates have typically been $1000 higher then the 100 people who have called me this week. Broker says we usually run this 44000 pound load to Miami for $2850C I say great call that person. $1300 to Philly? Fxxk no. I feel awful for the carriers who have to take these loads to keep some sort of revenue stream going and their drivers working. Problem is the usual rates were crap to begin with now the environment is hostile and potentially deadly. If a driver starts showing signs of this virus on Monday in Dallas will he have the strength to get home to his local health care? Would they even let him cross the border if he was showing signs? You think he would get a ventilator over a Texan? These hero's need to be rewarded for their sacrifice and usual rates are a slap in the face and they should stay home if they can. Having said all that my point is I don't feel I'm gouging but the broker on the other end of the line would think otherwise.

I totally agree with you. As a broker yes I was able to get it cheaper BUT now is a different story. If today's rate is higher, so be it. We as a broker have to explain to our customer the situation. YOu are right THESE HERO'S need to be rewarded. You all be safe. Cheers

Supply and demand, and in this case maybe a little bit of added danger pay. Hope everyone stays safe!
