Looking for help on this one, we have a direct client that requires a 20' can @ 35,000 lbs. moved over the road from Toronto to Riverside, California.

Any suggestions on carriers?

I cannot see why most flat step guys that still run out to that communist country could not do this. I believe you can still buy the can locks that fit into stake pockets to make a flat or a step into a chassis.

come January 1, 60% of my fleet is no longer welcome in California and I couldn't be happier. Between their emissions and that stupid 40' wheelbase law when everyone else is 41' just drives me crazy. And most deck guys can't haul cans for the rates the can guys want them hauled for.

Yes, it is definitely a sad scenario when the "Can Guys" can't make money doing it. Especially when this is a regular shipment/routine shipment.

Every Tuesday leaving Toronto for Riverside with Construction Equip./Tools/Parts for the Mining/Oil Industry
Every Thursday leaving Riverside, Cali for Toronto with Repaired/Sharpened/Lubricated Parts for Mining/Oil Industry

I received a number of rates, both for road and rail. Even though our clients wants it over the road only, had too many rail delays which have impacted their operations, now they are gun shy of rail lines.

Funny part, I had a couple of unknown carriers give me a rate of $2250 each way for over the road... I tend to think that they were lying to me and will just toss it on a train car as an intermodal shipment, and say sorry when we call to track upon delivery date.

The best over the road rate we received $3150 each way with a date definitive delivery however it was an unknown carrier as well. Just seems that everyone wants the shipment heading south, but no one wants the freight coming back..... and yes we do have "proper money in it" for a carrier. Just need to source the proper carrier.

Most expensive rate was $9500 each way, from a carrier would be considered a "full load only carrier"

Thoughts,
