Nawk, you’re bang on. With the abolishment of e-tests, maybe the gov’t should look at required dashcam installations in order to renew stickers?Great question.
As far as cost goes... I don't think the consumer would even feel it. the cost of digital cameras and a short term recording method is next to nothing anymore. Auto makers would buy so many of these that the cost would be reduced.
The potential savings on courts and lawsuits would greatly out weigh the cost of the camera and recording device.
How sad, but true...Sure...The government will love that....Good ole Justin Trudeau can then send us all a bill every year for their hard work spending our money....sigh.
I think that everyone should expect any no privacy in a public place. One should expect that the road, the sidewalk, the front of your house, all has a potential camera pointing toward it at any time for any number of reasons. I don't believe privacy is an issue for dash cams being installed for OEM.There is also a "privacy" issue regarding dash cams and all the other activity the cam picks up not relevant to motorists on the road. Similar reason as to why photo radar didn't last. It was catching not only license plate information but photos of the occupants in the vehicle. I guess not everyone liked to have their picture taken when they didn't "authorize" it. Funny how many European countries still utilize photo radar for speeding and red light running...but the minute it comes to Ontario and someone "complains" about it - it's gone.
