We only use Michelin XZA3 steer tires. We have done some tests and found they are the best. We take them off of our long haul tractors at around 135-150,000 miles (215-240,000 km) and put the pair side by side together on a trailer and get an additional 200,000 miles in that position.
They also were the tire that had the least amount of road debris issues (nails, sidewall cuts, etc) but that just might be the luck of the draw. In our tests and to this day we have only had one with a nail in it where our other test tires seemed to pickup nails. Its not a decision maker but the results were surprising.
The drivers prefer this tire too...
We have done a similar test with trailer tires and found the best to be the Bridgestone R197. We use Michelin XDA Energy for our tractor drive tires.
All these tires are low rolling resistance tires that get excellent wear.
