Well lesson learned....NEVER help THE ACE GROUP ever again! We saved their "butts" to service their client on an urgent last minute request. Since November of 2013 they still have not responded to their outstanding invoices. So, today, I am headed on a quest to call each one of their customers and report them to LINK. Maybe even show up at their office today, if your on here ACE GROUP, see you soon. It amazes me how unethical this outfit is.

Is this the Ace Group on Orenda Dr. Brampton, you're referring to?

Maggs - the Ace Group is still open...and still operating.

Show up at their door - you'll see just how nice their offices are as well. Doesn't look like much from the outside - but the inside sure is nice. I don't know how they have lasted this long...really...that place has been a sinking ship for a long time now....

As the owner of a freight brokerage company, I am always surprised when a carrier gets into a non-payment situation with another broker. It makes me wonder what kind of pre-authorization checks are done by the carrier to ensure the credit worthiness of the company offering the freight. Not to say that even the most thorough investigation will prevent all cases of delinquent payment, but surely a follow-up with their references might reveal a history of slow payments. We are always asked to provide credit information when we are doing business with a new carrier, including a list of carriers with whom we have an account along with the other usual details, i.e. D & B number, bank info, etc.. In return, we request service references from all new carriers. In simple terms, the broker is buying service and the carrier wants to be remunerated for that service, so why not check to see that both will be provided in a proper and timely fashion? Moderator, please feel free to move this thread to a more appropriate forum if you feel that I have strayed off topic.

Loaders thanks for your feedback....not inappropriate at all, we did all of the right things, however the ACE GROUP is not doing the right thing. Have a great day.

Loaders - thanks for the post. I will leave it here as it pertains to this thread.

Carriers getting into problems with freight brokers is a common scenario. It really is. Credit checks, D&B and word of mouth only go so far...And the way this industry has been going the past year...anything is possible. The next question should be...if you can't rely on credit checks, word of mouth or D&B - where do you turn to assess the credit worthiness of a potential new customer? That is the million dollar question nowadays - and there is no clear answer.

Customers we have been dealing with for many years are finding themselves "in trouble". And in the case with brokers - the main credit check that should be done is on THEIR customer. Forget the broker themselves - take a look at the shipper where you'll be picking up from. If their credit is crap...10 to 1...the broker is dragging out the payment to the carrier...or not paying at all.

You really are just rolling the dice at times when it comes to new customers. It certainly wasn't this way a year...or 2 years ago. But it certainly is a reality today - and one that I don't see changing anytime soon from a credit perspective. One can only do their best in finding out who they are extending "net 30" too...and take it from there. Set limits and stay within in. Any reputable broker will be more concerned with building a solid relationship with a good carrier than complaining about having to pay a $300 invoice a little earlier than their net 30 terms due to being over their credit limit.

Maggs - I know you'll be hounding them...and you'll have no problem showing up at their door. I believe they are paying the ones who "pester" the most. Ask for Chris Shields when you walk in...no broker likes people just showing up...looks bad for the rest of the employees still working there. I hope it works out for you...

Just an update, ACE Group is no longer at their Orenda Rd address in Brampton. The place is totally empty and "For Lease" is on the front lawn

Good for them, maybe they can save on rent in their smaller location and finally pay the $180 they owe me for the past 18 months...
