For those that attended the Summit yesterday - I think alot of us were relieved to not hear the dreaded "R" word from the analysts regarding 2020. Long and short of it - the industry is not only facing the driver challenge we've been hearing about for years...but also getting the younger generation on board to trucking. It's getting much harder to not only expand your employee base but find talent worth investing in. The larger carriers are focussing on succession planning with their staff - and are not finding much success in tackling that huge problem.
Those in the industry are all facing the same trials and tribulations. If we can 'share' those challenges and face them head on together - progression...and good progression will prevail. I basically took away from the Summit that if we keep operations 'day to day' with no thought to the future or where your business will be a month, year or 5 years from now...you're going to be in trouble. Status quo and putting things off just won't cut it any longer.
Most of us in the industry a long time that are running a good operation were already aware of these issues to come. We just need to start doing something about it. It can't always be pushed to the 'do next week' pile.
So all in all....just more stuff on our plates to take care of. What else is new eh?
