This was an interesting read. If the blitz grabs unsafe equipment AND nabs illegals - "win win" for everyone who is legitimately working and following the rules (such as paying taxes) in this country.
The safety check AND driver check go hand in hand if you ask me. Just my 2 cents on the matter.
I think it is logical to assume that individuals with immigration warrants for their arrest are well aware of the outstanding warrants. I say this because immigrants must maintain a current address with the government so as to be contacted regarding any outstanding matters. As such, they could expect to be stopped and detained at any point in time if they ignore any request by immigration to present. Being stopped while driving a commercial vehicle is one of those times. Now I don't think the MTO should take up checking drivers immigration status. They are not qualified to do so and these are very complex matters. But I do certainly agree that they should detain an individual with an outstanding warrant just the same as if a driver with a warrant for any other crime should be detained.
