I was of the impression that it provided a central registry for multiple brokers for validated data. Our insurance renewed March 1st...and RMIS had an updated insurance cert on file 3 weeks ago. Yet yesterday with Echo and today with CH Robinson, neither of them had the certificate that was sent to RMIS on file in their own system. I'm convinced that either RMIS is useless, or the big box brokers compliancy departments are not processing things properly.

If you are a broker and use RMIS - I'd love to know where the value is.....because as a carrier, its an extremely frustrating process, not just on the insurance side, but on the onboarding side as well.

yep and US broker all think I do not have WSIB as trying to explain they need to update the cert is not worth the hassle. PS send me your update little round buddy I will get you guys updated

I use RMIS, it connects with the brokers TMS so the updated insurance should be automatic. I dont know why you are having problems. Although we have problems with this and it requires a manual update, only takes a minute, this is not an RMIS issue and we will resolve in a few months with the latest TMS upgrades.

WCB / WSIB can be an issue, RMIS is 'merica centric and they have different regulations for WCB and general liability.

Onboarding carriers by sending brokerage agreement plus many other forms for the carrier to fill out and return with their authorities, WCB, banking details was not working for us so we signed up with RMIS.

It is not nearly as seamless as they show you in the demo and there is no one checking the documents the carrier uploads to ensure they are submitting what is required. RMIS still requires our intervention to get the carrier set up.

In theory, if the carrier is already set up with RMIS then adding them to our account should be very easy as RMIS has all the docs and we just need the Brokerage Agreement digitally signed.

I'm 50/50 on the value of the service but dont want to onboard carriers manually either.

I looked at one of their competitors but they could not handle Canadian carriers

EDIT for spelling / grammar

I have always had issues with CH Robinson - so we ask our insurabce broker for the RIMS cOI he sends and then send that one to carriersupport ourselves

RMIS has a glitch when if you as a carrier sign up by clicking the link in your Gmail app on your phone, once you get to the code request it boots you out and you have to start all over. Not a fan of RMIS it's too much of a hassle. They need to find a way to save time too many brokers ask to setup and it takes an hour and you lose the load to another carrier in the setup process. I've lost $1000 of potential loads because the setup process is too long.

@tasuinam One of the benefits of RMIS is they get the COI from the carriers insurance agent and are the named certificate holder; when the cert is expiring they get a new copy, when cancelled we get notified, they do this part very well. Is this a CH Robinson issue?

@CTET321 That is disappointing that you are losing loads, my understanding is that once you are set up with RMIS the process of onboarding with a new broker should be easer and quicker.

If a carrier is struggling with RMIS and can't complete the set up, it can be a red flag. I have been through this recently and set up a carrier manually that I should not have and will do a much deeper dive into the carrier moving forward when this happens.

did like 70 RMIS setups in the last 5 months - the only issue is that they don't autoload the W8BEN - takes 3 mins.

Carrierassure isn't too bad and is quicker than RMIS - takes like 30 seconds - they automatically upload your WBEN.

Highway compliance - all the young kids are on this one - it's instant set-up & you get a nifty load offering from each company.

There's like a billion US brokerages - always love seeing a brokerage paying extra for carrier compliance - Highway Compliance has all my VINs on file for all my equipment - and I know if they are willing to pay for compliance they aren't going to disappear on an invoice or a detention time request.

You would think the process would be easier but each broker has a different form to fill out and each one seems to request different documents, so nothing is the same. Would be nice if we could just have one giant form, one time sign up and the rest is a request to have the information.... I think simpler and shorter forms are better, too many clauses in a contract is just not a fair way to setup a carrier who is only going to make a little profit and losing that 1 hour of time to setup is a turn off and scare tactic it's not nice to a small company who makes only $100's off a load in profit when they do all the admin plus the drive and then strap the load as a flatbed trucker, then send out the invoices and try to collect... way too much work for the large contract and small amount of money... If that makes sense they need to get it down to a 5 minute job to make this fair and unbalanced.

@tasuinam - do you have the email address for carrier support? at Robinson?

Same issue with other big box brokers - data doesn't flow through to their system so its like starting the setup circus all over again.

We have experienced the same thing as we have had a number of RMIS setups and other programs like CarrierAssure.

One issue I have is that I have had the W8BEN filled out by a US lawyer to ensure that there is nothing overlooked. Most of the items on that form are completely daunting to non finance people and its worse for non finance people from Canada. RMIS requires us to fill it out online and fill all the boxes, then you have to scroll up and down to figure out which box is not checked properly. It takes too much time. We should be able to upload this document.

The second issue is that you have no choice but to accept the carrier agreement. If there is something in there you don't agree to you have no choice but to accept. Usually the broker has no choice to override either. There can be no conversation about this.

Thirdly, some brokers want you to fill out a complete lanes list and that process takes a long time. Usually these are not well defined - I don't go everywhere in ON.

The dispatchers are completely fed up with some of these processes. They're time consuming and over burdening. Usually by the time they make it through the setup the load is gone and you've set yourself up with a broker that you may never pair up again. Now all that information is in someone's hands to do what they will with it.

When I have free time I do set-ups with American brokerages for the sake of it - then when the chips are down & me and another company are empty in SC - guess whos already set up.

I've only ever had an issue with CH Robinson

RMIS changed the email addy to send the certs to, but didn't tell anyone. The new one is transportation@registrymonitoring.com
Also, certs have to be emailed ... they don't accept them by snail mail.

RMIS and alike can't be useless. These are a blessing for seamless onboarding experience and of course there's no such a service in Canada. Just talk to RMIS about it they will figure out and solve the issue.
