Hi there,
This carrier was a link subscriber. The operation was set up specifically to pick up shipments that were of fair value and quick sell on the black market (construction equipment, materials, etc.). I've reviewed over a dozen pages of perfectly legitimate paperwork all with matching addresses, etc. Nothing was doctored and when you call their insurance company their policy is in good standing. How am I, Link or anyone else supposed to predict what this company was going to do? On paper, they are just as legitimate as any carrier we work with. We (and others) are a victim of a well organized criminal who knows how to open and present a legitimate carrier operation. They/he decided that Tuesday morning was the day to turn off the cell phone and disappear with everyones freight and their link account was shut down by 10:30AM. Transcore aren't the RCMP, they are people like you and me who check paperwork, call insurance companies to verify coverage and become a certificate holder before they allow clients to use their service. I'm sure their list of procedures for accepting carriers is more stringent than yours or mine.
The insurance company seems very helpful so I suspect all will be said and done 60-75 days from incident max.
The only thing that irks me about this entire situation is after speaking to the 'landlord' of the property listed on the truck ownership, business registration, insurance, etc... he advised that the criminal approached him to rent space in November but never put down a deposit, never signed a contract and does not have office space at his location. I wonder how he has all these documents then showing this address as his 'location of conducting business'? Sketchy.
Seems like I care about finding details and finding my customers freight more than the cops! lshmsfoaidmt!
Keep well,
Mike
