Have never experienced such blatant racial bias...so my team went to pick a load from a shipper that we are at every week. The security guard said his shoes weren't proper PPE and so my driver replied saying he wore them last week when he picked a load and has no other shoes (they were steel toed shoes but older so no sticker). So the security guard refused to give him the load...because it's a team my driver tried on the other driver's shoes - they fit and so he wore them and went back.
The security guard accused him of lying (uttered racial slur) and told him he cannot load and has to leave the premises NOW...
How does the guard at the gate have so much power!!!! - cannot understand people's hate...

I hope you reported this to your contact at the shipper. The security guard appears to have some anger issues, along with some others. There is no place for this in our industry, or anywhere for that matter.

Just remember the entire world wide supply chain pivots on the whims and fancies of just one person ... the dock worker ... the lowest paid, typically least educated, in the entire chain of events, and usually the one with a GaFF score far below zero.
Gate security personnel are lumped into that same category as the dock worker. Occasionally you will find that they are like the MTO is to the OPP ... lots of power, but no common sense whatsoever.

We had a somewhat similar situation during a delivery, minus the racial slur, and in under 20 minutes the gate guard had his walking papers ... fired on the spot ... at 3:30 in the morning. Hopefully your customer comes up with a similar resolution.

Not sure what happen to the guard - but we were invited back to pick the load - diff person at the gate. Also apparently the story was that my driver didn't have work gloves on to receive paperwork!!!!! Why would he have work gloves on to get paperwork?????

Potentially understandable given the COVID situation, but, if you, and subsequently your team, were never notified, then really the guard has no leg to stand on ... sounds like he was just being a dick. Hopefully he got fired.

What always amazes me....and I've been doing this for FAR TOO LONG...LOL...is how people can take something simple and quick and turn it into a long, drawn out and expensive issue!

1) Hey...you need steel toed boots to pickup here
2) hey...my team driver has a pair right here!
3) well put them on and get in here! :)
