Potential flight attendant strike shines light on unpaid work. Truck drivers can relate.

Seriously, this article could have been written 40 years ago. In fact, I remember reading something very similar to this around 1985.

In order to pay drivers for all time on the job rates would have to come up to $5+/mi.. That part of the answer is easy... The harder question: who is going to go first?

Same with the airlines.. they can't pay for all time on the job when fares are $120.00 from Toronto to Edmonton. The math just won't work. Fares would need to be much higher.. and again.. who's going to go first with that $1200 seat fare?

Funny thing is no one brings up that the pilots are not paid until they’re in the air either…I’d be more concerned about that.

All to say I'm glad I don’t fly much..

Was at the airport Sunday and it was a mess in Terminal 3 due to Air Canada being on strike.
Plan accordingly if you have travel plans

Is this economy prices? It's well known that all airlines make little to no profit on economy tickets. Their money is in the business and first class seats. Also, Canada to US is slower in demand right now due to the tariffs and elbows up/boycott movement.

AC went full woke and now they're having their own DEI hires turn their backs on them. Our government had to force them back to work because unlike the Canada Post union strike, Air Canada dominates our airline indurstry. AC had the cards and they knew it, that's why they simply let it pan out until government got involved to act and govt knew they had to act swiftly to avoid economic collapse..

DEI hires doesn't mean they are less qualified - infact sometimes they are more qualified. DEI re-examines hiring biases inherent in traditional hiring. Example:

Referrals that favor homogenous networks
Subjective “culture fit” filters
Bias in resume reviews, especially around names, schools, or career gaps - we all know how the rich got into ivy league schools
