Personal Advice - everyone is welcome to share some wisdom here

Divide your life into 5 phases.
1. Childhood - Play hard, Study Hard, Finish School in time.
2. Youth- Work as hard as you can, enjoy as much as you can. Say NO to Drugs and Drink sensibly if you have to. Start Saving. Visit places, and more places. This is the only thing you will miss most.
3. Adulthood- Be a family man here, and friends come after, go to work, come back home, and spend time with family. Keep the balance. Balance is a must. You cannot ignore work or family. Take your work home, but to some extent. You cannot answer after-hours calls every day, and the same applies to family time; you also cannot go out every day. Balance is the key here. Work Smart,
4. Slowdown- You achieved what you could; now it's time to sit back and enjoy whatever you achieved, and stop comparing yourself with other people of the same age. Some may still be working harder than they did during their youth, and some may be starting a new business. Whatever it is, you must take things easy at this stage. Kids are out in college: you and your partner.
5. Detachment - Detach yourself from people around you: no kids, no partner, no friends, and no relationships. Be a Monk and live like a Monk, and live in a place where you have never been before. I know this is hard for most of us but I am certianly going to try. I read a book when I was in college. The Monk who sold his Ferrari explains everything what exactly you need in the last phase of the life.

Most importantly, Health is Wealth..

Can I not have the detachment phase? Rather I'll go wine touring in Italy and France with my wife. I'll be perfectly alone when she's 'sleeping' at 10:30...
I do love the rest of your post though.

Keep well,
Mike

Couldn't agree more. I cycle the backroads all summer long, in the evenings. I pass this beautiful country estate with an old man in a wheel chair perched on the front porch. We nod hello, and I'm thinking I wish I could afford such a splendid place, and likely he's thinking that he'd trade his place for the simple pleasure of riding a bicycle through the countryside.

This has me thinking about another one - never compare your life to someone else's - we don't know the struggles someone else is fighting behind the scenes etc. Live your life your way, do good for yourself/others/society, and do it to the best of your ability.
