Theft & Fraud Warning
We’ve heard about a few incidents in the past week where a broker had their loads stolen by what appeared to be a valid carrier. In each instance, the brokers were contacted for the freight and were sent the insurance and operating authorities of a legitimate US based carrier.
In the incidents that occurred this week, they were forwarded the
authorities of PEI Logistics out of Altanta, GA. They DO NOT have an
office in Canada and they don’t have Canadian operating authorities. An
individual representing himself as the Canadian division of PEI phoned to
book the loads. This person took the logos and other information off PEI’s
website and created a fax cover sheet to make it look legit.
He made the arrangements with the broker, picked up the freight and it was
gone.
If this has happened to you and you suspect your load has been stolen,
contact the cargo theft department of your local police station.
