Hi everyone,

As we all know - PC Miler has many versions, well continued up graded versions of 53' routing for trucks. I have an inquiry that I need some input/advice on. We have a freight management company using PC Miler 24, which continously gives approximately 100 miles less then what our PC Miler 18 gives us. So for a run from GTA , 1st drop 17901 and 2nd drop 17402 - I am getting 527 miles. Using practical miles they are insiting they will only pay for 426 miles....should I let it be?

Their routing takes a truck via Hwy 15 which is 2 lanes, windy and during winter may not be the best option for safety reasons. Our version takes us through Hwy 81 South....

Can anyone offer suggestions on this?

Thank you.

Most companies that pay by the mile pay the shortest mileage. We figure out before hand what we need for the run (using practical miles) and then ask what mileage they pay on and then divide the amount that you need by the miles they are paying on. It is a stupid game but they think they are saving money.

We have PC 24 and get (using Concord as starting point) 465 on practical and 452 on shortest - so not sure how they get 426?

But also with Lowmiler - do the same thing. Whatever they use as mileage does not make a difference - just build in cost to fit their mileage program.

Thanks everyone for your feedback, much appreciated.....and thank you to "thebluffs", I responded to your private message, but I do not have enough posts yet to be able to....so....I guess I better get busy.

Usually when a company is paying per mile, they are usually doing so using Rand McNally HHG miles. Sometimes the variance is very small, sometimes it can be quite large. It really depends on the route.

When a customer uses a TMS they are usually geared towards HHG mileage -- why, nobody knows but it's usually built into the software -- but basically I just factor it in when I'm rating it.

I have used PCMiler versions from 12 through 23, along with the TMW bridge, and the FLEET bridge.
I have found, by far, the most accurate one is google maps, and its free.
Every once in awhile you have to add a point to get the routing the way its going to go, but I have found accuracy within 2% of hub miles. And I dont have to spend 2 grand to buy it.

We threw out PC miler 2 years ago and have never looked back.

I can't believe what I''m about to say but, here goes. We use a program from Microsoft (yes, I'm ashame)... It's called Microsoft Street and Trips 2010 and it's 10 times more accurate than PC miler for 1/10th the cost. It cost you approx $120.00 every 2 years for a newer version.

It's probably the only Microsoft program that actually works without all the glitches... I've talked to many other companies we deal with and just about everyone we talked to that asked what we use go on to try it and most stay with it for the convenience and the cost.

Please believe me when I say I'm definitely NOT a Microsoft fan but this one works.

Sorry for getting off the PC miler topic but thought I'd share an alternative to PC (pretty costly lol)...

I agree with Dave here. Works just fine for me. For customers that use PC Miler we just adjust the rate per mile accordingly.

Are you sure the difference isn't from Pc miler trying to take you down route 219. We have to add Corning, Ny as a way point on routing to get correct mileage while using version 19. Route 219 is not a great truck route.

Hi to all ,
I am looking for PCMILER win7 64bit, who knows where i can buy it in Montreal ??

Good morning,

1-800-377-6453 x1

or email: sales@alk.com

Pretty sure they are based in NJ. I highly doubt you can just walk into a store and buy a CD, I've never seen one 'on the shelf'.

Keep well,

Mike

Good morning Mike, thanks, but I tried to find in stores but there is nothing, future shop, best buy, bureau en gros

Regards

219 is fine 15 is fine 17/86 is also fine. I think it's silly to run a toll road (approx. $30??) from Buffalo to Syracuse and go 20 miles or so out of the way regardless of what rate is secured, snow covered roads being the exception. I have never understood a mileage rate to the NE because most shippers can't grasp the rate being more then double what they pay south & west.

PCMiler administration - price is for standard PCMILER 900.00 USD )))))))))) I want to see who will buy at this price )))
In future shop (2 years ago) price was 120.00
