MNS Logistics (out of Mississauga) gave our freight to Alexandria Transport and then said it was their owner operator. However, driver said he was based in Edmonton and the tractor said Alexandria Transport. Trailer had corrosive acid (they had just hauled batteries) on inside and arrived to pick up food grade

So the truck had a haz spill in it?

If the load before was batteries I do not see the big deal. Batteries are hauled in boxes same as the food. If the batteries leaked I understand the concern but food grade is just clean dry and odor free. Which is funny because food loads leave the most smells for the most part.

I had a shipper once that refused to load a trailer as he said it had a strong odor. He was loading bagged coffee on the floor. He did not know what to say when the driver showed him his BOL stating we had just delivered coffee in cases to his other warehouse 15 miles away.

The fact it was double brokered is concerning unless they are from Quebec then they where just helping you out buy CO-brokering your load. Quebec is allowed to do that it is a strong business model there.

Not all batteries are the same. I'd say that it's fine if the truck was hauling a load of CPG type batteries. But you could also be talking about automotive/marine batteries for recycling ... and that would be a different story.

Sorry should have been more specific, the batteries I guess where used and there was corrosive acid all over the floor, it even had an odour and had eaten some of the floor. We refused the trailer, MNS presented this driver as their owner operator, however Alexandria is a good size company according to the website and they are based in different cities.
