Afternoon all,

Has anyone heard the rumor that McKevitt is shutting their doors?
PR

yes, one of their drivers told our shipper that they are closing at the end of the month.
when we asked them about it they confirmed they are retiring.

Another long term player who provided decent service over the years is disappearing. surprised that someone isn't buying the customer base, there are few players with terminals in TB Area.

They used to haul paper from the north back in the day and it paid REALLY WELL to the GTA and Northern Mid-West (MN, WI, IA) and then take whatever LTL they could to get back home. With the mills closing and reducing production over the years the 'meat" of their operation is missing.

I'm sure the real estate will bring something... but they were always good at getting the full life out of their equipment.

I feel bad for the people that work there...

That's too bad, a familiar sight in Northern Ontario for years

Papermills started using rail - so that also dried up volume ...

Everything up here dry van moves with Manitoulin, Gardewine (who bought Courtesy) and ERB. Oh some MRT also.
Before I moved north Arnone closed up shop, those guys were awesome to work with too. The competition gets smaller in difficult times and vast when the rates are up.

Keep well,
Mike

If you are looking for alternatives for moving freight into North Bay and Sudbury please consider McGill Transportation [email protected]
FYI: This carrier has provided great service to A&B for many years. Your going to be in good hands with Mac!

@mac Glad to see your picking up some of the volume and can hopefully land a few more clients who need excellent service in the snowbelt!

I'm surprised Titanium didn't try to buy them.
No disrespect to McKevitt... but buy what?
They're not running any new equipment.
They've downsized significantly in the past few years.

So why would Titanium want to buy a bunch of old barns in the north (where they already have locations), a bunch of old trucks and trailers and a list of brokers who occasionally have freight going north?

There just isn't anything to buy really.

I'm sure the McKevitt's had a for sale sign out for a while before they came to the decision of...
F$%K IT... shut 'er down.

Sad really... and a sign of the way Canada is going.

It's hard to see a lot of value in current Canadian Trucking companies and its sad.

McKevitt, been around forever but like you said. Old equipment that's worth peanuts and some random barns.

They might have some decent connections on outbound freight but inbound, for sure they relied on brokers to fill their trucks. And even on the outbound side, those connections are probably tied to a specific sales person/owner. Can be hard to transfer that

Do you know how much equipment they had at their height? Just curious
I thought they were about 150 trucks at one time
