What really puts me off when working with a carrier is when I call and they use words like, honey, or sweetie, or dear. I am no feminist, but this is really just obnoxious and weird. I don't know if guys think we like it, but I'm pretty sure most of us don't. Am I the only one?

Terms of Endearment

I think that those terms of endearment are nice to here. I like "sweetie" and "dear" way more than i like "hey you, or yo bi**h". Men don't always know just the right way to make us happy, but as long as they keep trying, its a good thing.

I guess you are right about that, but I just find it patronizing, like I'm being talked down to or something. I just find it unprofessional when coming from a man or a woman.

I would rather deal with someone with a nice attitude on the phone then an a hole! Even if there calling me babe or whatever better then being treated like you don't know anything and are being talked down too because your a woman and they think they are better then you. Just because you are a man doesn't make you any better then any of us transportation women.

If you think it's bad when a guy calls a gal "honey", imagine when a male disptahcre calls another male "sweetie"

in my defense, i only call our female counterparts sweetie or hhoney because i'm too ashamed to tell them i forgot there name, but alot of times i think i sound rough or short so i try to let the listener know i don't mean any harm by my sharp tongue.

and now for my little complaint,,,,there are quite a few gal dipatchers out there who think if they play coy or use phrases like " oh i'm having one of those days",they can waste our time,,,,to all rookies out there,,run your miles, figure out your rates and serviceability before you call....oh who am i kidding let's just move some freight and have some fun..

cheers.

Really?

This is too funny! We all know what kind of industry this and what it always will be. I dont know about you but "Phone Flirting" is half the fun of coming to work.
My advice to Original poster - Transport is not your average professional industry, We go through quite a bit a stress! Its what we do to to release some of that stress and relate to the other person on the phone. Get over it honey!! Its all in good fun
Happy Friday all:eek:

dammit!

you mean everyone does it? crap. here I am thinking all the women who constantly call me honey were doing it because of my voice.....well at least a couple actually were, I know that....lol

Since the dawn of time dispatchers have been doing this, its a hard job and sometimes a little sweet talk helps with the day - get over it!

Gal Dispatcher!

I agree. This buis is hard enough on the stress system... What's the harm in a little phone flirt if it makes the stress melt away a little!?!?!

I get called sweetie, honey, and sugar all the time by women (and I'm a man)...I really don't mind. It's not something that offends me. I get more offended by crap service and lost accounts...but that's just me.

Agreed...a little harmless flirting helps the day go by and helps to lighten a very stressful job. I flirt as much as possible!! HEHEHEHEHEHE

I personally think that it all depends on how u take it. Some like it some don't. I'm young, so always get that sweetheart business. I don't mind it at all. If you don't like it, its a personal issue, don't look for an issue within "social standing" but for an issue within yourself... just my two cents :D
