Anyone have any ideas?
Peterbilt with locking fuel caps (the non spinning kind). Tried penetrating oil, brake clean, channel locks, pliers...nothing will get the key or the handle to turn. Called the Pete dealership and they had no ideas.

Come on gang! Someone has to have an idea. It took the driver 1-1/2 hours to fill the tanks (the one cap unlocked and they are levelling tanks)!

Thanks!

You try lock de-icer where the key goes? Only takes a little ice to screw them up - I know this from experience.
Maybe heat it up a little with a torch before trying the channel locks on them again. Just guessing here.

Did you say to heat up the gas cap with a TORCH? Oh my.

I'll admit I don't have trucks, but something tells me the lock de-icer would be a safer start. Maybe heating up just the key? Just a thought.

Keep well,
Mike

Mike Jr... Diesel doesn't ignite as easy as gasoline. If the cap is a different metal than the tank (which it probably is) often different metals corrode against each other... warming them up may help to break them apart.

Best bet... take it to a shop for a quick fix.

For sure. Locks only keep out lazy thieves anyway... if they want it bad enough... there isn't a lock made that will stop them (it'll only slow 'em down a little).

Did you try a couple of good solid "Taps" with a hammer after the penetrating oil? Sometimes the vibrations loosen things up.

Finally got the bugger off! Just in case anyone else has this problem...crap gets in there and builds up so we used a paper clip to clean it out. Then the key worked! The cap came off and (thanks Mario) they were both thrown away. You pay all this money for a Peterbilt and they have these cheesy fuel caps? Not impressed!!
Thanks again for everyone's input.
