Loadlink are something else!!!!! They just called to tell me I couldn't have load link on my home computer without having another account, months after they installed it. Oh why can't we go on without it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The online version doesn't cost anymore & can be accessed from home as long as no-one is on Link in the office. It's fairly basic & I hated using it. However I have now kicked Link into touch, so don't have to bother with any of it
If you are into playing around with computers then this should work for you. If you are the type of person who should be careful around computers than do not attempt.
Anyway, there is a program called VNC, there are many others like it but VNC is good and I think it is free if you only use it on two computers, but is cheap even if you want it on more.
This program allows you to take control of one computer from a different computer. They either both have to be on the same network, or both have to be connected to internet. You have to set this software up on both computers, but after all is done, it is as simple as a couple clicks, put in username and password, and you are good to go.
LogMeIn.com is the same idea. You setup a small service on your workstation at work and can securely log in from any computer that is on the internet. Our employees use it when they are at home and taking calls in the middle of the night. The best part is that it actually puts your work computer on your home computer screen so that anything that is on the network or on your desktop can be accessed. We never need to bring files home anymore because everything from our dispatch system is right there at your fingertips where you get it all day.
I actually use a Seagate portable hard drive.... it's about the size of a pack of cigarettes ... cost $99.00, very simple to use, now my home pC & laptop are mirror images of my work PC. As most of my programmes are web based, this has the added advantage of being able to be used from any PC or laptop that I have access to... although with a rocket stick, looking for a PC when I'm not at home is a thing of the past... I always have access with my laptop... even in the car
