Does anyone know of a reputable trucking company in southern Ontario that does lease to own programs. If so is the equipment in good shape, are their pay rates industry standard or better. If you know of any and had experience with them and if you know of ones to stay away from your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

lease to own

Scotlynn Commodities down around Simcoe ON used to have some sort of lease to own program with Peterbilts - they have their own Pete dealership on site - Can't comment about rates or how successful the program was for the lessee

Most lease to own's are never never plans, meaning if you do not stay the term of the lease which will probably be a minimum of 5 years you have to walk away from the truck and recieve nothing in return. So if you do not like the company you will loose out in the long run. My own opinion is if you have to do a lease to own then you are not properly funded for this business climate. This is not the time to be getting into trucks what happens if you get 600 miles for 2 weeks straight how will you survive? If you really want the lease to own go with a company that will let you be a company driver for a couple of months first to see if you are a good fit for that company.

Agree totally with you lowmiler. My father inlaw had to go bankrupt last year and also lost the truck with only a year left until it was his.

In my eyes what your getting into is basically walking into a casino and taking a huge gamble.

But good luck in whatever you decide.

We have done a few "lease to own" deals over the years with Owner Operators who had been with us a while, needed to get into a new truck but couldnt get financing. I wouldnt dream of doing it with a new owner operator that I didnt know.

I've also done it before, lease a guy a truck that is, and NEVER again ! I would not recommend this for anyone on either side of the lease. In these tough times it is definately a buyers market, my advice would be to shop, you will find tons of good used trucks available at a reasonable price. Owning a truck however won't solve the problem of where to put it to work. This will take alot more homework, and be carefull !

I would follow lowmiler88's advice and work for a company for a while first before you stick your neck out.

I've already done the lease to own and it worked out fine for me, in fact I still have the truck, paid it off in 2 yrs. and it's been a good truck. It's not like I'm new to this game and don't already know the risks and the advantages. I was just looking at some new ideas and wondered if anyone knew of a reputable company that offers this option.
