Hello Friends

I will highly appreciate your input on GPS tracking system you guys use for your fleet.( Monthly Cost, service quality etc)

Depends on what your looking for in a tracking system or whether it needs integration into your dispatch software. Shawtracking and Peoplenet are only options if you're serious about integration, performance monitoring, web tracing etc. Anything else is for play imho

Do you have any numbers how much you pay monthly?
All I need is tracking.... and low cost. We don't need those fancy Bells and Whistles.

If all you need is tracking - try 'Entourage' about $300 per unit and $180/yr subscription. Go to Blackline GPS - Real time GPS, tracking, vehicle, child, boat tracker and more for info. Future Shop used to sell a product called 'Snitch' but I don't think they carry it anymore. I have seen Entourage on sale in the states at TA/Petros. Make sure you let your insurance company know you have installed re:antitheft.
Hope this helps

TransCore Tracking is affordable, and all tech support is out of Mississauga. Strong GPS coverage too.

We have used Fleet Complete by TELUS and we are now using GPS Police.

Both systems are affordable and user friendly.

I believe that TELUS was $50.00 per unit, per month and the installation fee was around $200.00 per unit.

New GPS technology doesn't just track, it provides your safety coordinator with immediate driver behaviour information like how a driver navigates a cloverleaf or off-ramp.

None of the systems suggested below can help prevent an accident, they are just dots on a map.

For the same hardware cost and monthly subscription you could make the changes needed to start actively coaching your drivers and stop your insurance from rising.

If someone is looking for a GPS to act as a safety dept, I agree they are wasting their money. But, when I implemented GPS in our 85 truck fleet way back when, the payback was instant with regard to the dispatchers. It cut their menial phone time down immensely and allowed them to do other things that were more productive.
However, I wouldnt necessarily take the cheapest package. Make sure you have the ability to geo-fence and get excel reports. Its well worth the extra. I havent shopped the market for about 6 years, so I have no advice on who is good and who isnt.

We use BSM Sentinel and recovered 2 trucks within 2 hours of being notified they were stolen. It also provides performance data, excel spreadsheets and highly customisable scheduled reporting.

old GPS tracking systems do not save money - or lives

6 years is a very, very long time technology-wise. Things have changed dramatically.

You can run a safety department using the new technology. In-fact, technology now pushes you to act. You don't have to sit at a desk to do it, either.

Today we're talking about stopping a driver from speeding, knowing the exact second that it is about to happen.

That has huge potential safety-wise, and also 9% fuel cost savings.

Now we can stop excessive wait-times and idling at terminals and customer's docks, based on your own policy or contracts.

The best thing of all - new tech is dirt cheap and pays off in less than 2 months. Most 2006 tech was lucky to get a ROI in 18 months.

2005 - Youtube was invented - very few knew about it or could run it.
2011 - Youtube's on your cellphone.

500% payback in 1 year is progress, I would say.
