Too bad Canadian tax payers have to pay for these "Indo Canadians" while in jail. They should just be deported back to serve sentences in their own prisons. Which I'm sure are much less lavish...

And all from Brampton...shocking....

After articles like this, I feel sorry for the many hard working, honest Canadians of Indian ancestry, who happen to live in Brampton and work in the trucking industry. Like my grandfather the painter said, "you can cover a lot of walls using a broad brush, but it's not so good for the details". The problem lies not in who is currently bringing the drugs across the border, but in the failed "war on drugs", the longest running war in history. There will always be someone willing to take a chance on an instant reward, the returns are just too tempting. Until things change, there will always be an element of society willing to take this chance and it won't be restricted to any one colour or race.

Here's a question.

Do these folks have a criminal past before coming to Canada? Or are they pushed that way as a seemingly "easy road" when they can't make a go of things here?

I find it hard to believe that so many turn to the dark side so easily.

And my question is; "Why is Canada allowing criminals of any type in to set up shop?"

Canada immigration has to take some form of responsibility and action against this type of thing. Perhaps some sort of probationary period where if you're found to be involved in any type of criminal activity within 5 years of arrival you're handed back to your originating country (or something like that).
 
Like loaders said, each community has bad apples in it, that shames the rest of the community.

Another thing I might add is that apart from the Native Indians, all other communities are immigrants here, some have been here for generations and some are recent.

Also I have noticed in the news that they would say "Indo-Canadian" - why is that? Does there skin color or origin really matter, if they've committed a crime, they're a criminal, period.

Also there are countless murderers and serial rapists in jail. Know one to my knowledge has described them as German-Canadians, Italian-Canadian, or Jamaican-Canadian and so forth.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not standing up for these individuals. But whenever a criminal is identified as such, it puts bad light on the entire community.

Agreed Ranger...

Labeling... in any form isn't right. No one knows this better than the Italians who were labeled... "if you're Italian you must be in the mafia" for years.

However, whether you're a new citizen, visitor or other (from anywhere) if you choose to partake in criminal activity while on Canadian soil... you're gone. Other countries don't put up with it... why should Canada?
 
Completely agree with you there Nawk. I think Canada already has laws in place where if you're convicted of a serious crime, then you're deported after your sentence is finished. But I think this only applies to someone who has a Permanent Resident status.
 
So, 70% of those caught were Indo-Canadians. What is the percentage of drivers that are Indo-Canadian? Probably close to 70%. That's like saying that 70% of all owners of Chinese Restaurants that didn't pass the Health Dept test were Chinese. Statistics can be very misleading.

That's what bothered me about the article. It isn't that the drug smugglers are "Indo/Ital/Polish Canadians, the problem is the amount of drugs making it across and the precious little that is stopped. The race of those involved is nothing more than "the flavour of the day".
