Does anyone have a custom broker they find easy to work with? I have a customer looking to get setup for there shipments into Canada

We have referred a number of clients to the below firm. I've heard back, that they are very pleasant and simple to deal with.

Near North Customs Brokers Inc.,
20 Elliott Avenue
Barrie, ON. L4N 4V7
Phone: 705 739-0024 ext 84132
Fax: 705 739-0268

through which crossing?

we often refer A N Deringer simply cause they can do USA / Canada bound freight so it's easier for the client

It has been our experience that inland brokers sometimes don't have the resources to solve border problems after hours. They are relying on another broker located at the crossing. A broker that can do both US and Canadian shipments is a better way to go whenever possible.

We usually recommend BCB, they clear on both sides and are very helpful when issues arise.

We use S.M. Hewitt - great to deal with.
On another note has anyone cleared a customers shipment through there own account with a broker instead of bonding.

Bubba, that is a slippery slope as you now become the importer of record for said shipment and open yourself up to all kinds of fun should something not be just right.
I second this, it's not a good idea seeing as you don't know the exact product, cost, etc plus you probably wouldn't be filling out the paperwork

We do around 30 loads a week through Thompson Ahern 905-677-3471 maybe 1 or 2 issues a year and taken care of right away. Been with them for 15 years and many have tried to replace them but no one has come close in price or service.

BCB (Buffalo Customs Brokers) or PCB (Pacific Customs Brokers) are the two we refer to most often. Moving up the list quickly though is FTN (FedEx Trade Networks).

Yes Thompson Ahearn is one of the better ones, and they do have a US division called TAHOCO. Integrated customs broker out of Woodstock really know their stuff, we use them a lot for importing used equipment etc, Their number is 519-539-8431, ask for Janna Streef.
