Humber College to close commercial truck driving program

Tough to compete when you are running a legal school and doing it right but the clientele prefers the back alley so called school that is 1/4 of the time and 1/2 the price. Shadies Fly By Night Trucking School you pass if you don't crash...

That is sad news indeed. Many years ago, before I had the massive brain injury that forced me to start a freight brokerage company, I did a short stint as a teacher for the commercial truck driving course. This was back in their early days, but even then they were committed to doing it right. Too bad that a quality program has been driven out of business by those offering a much lower standard.

The price point seems to be the nail in the coffin. 10K for a course an license to work for companies paying $21/hr to $23/hr is a hard pill to swallow for anyone trying to get into the industry. And I get it they have much higher overhead than these other schools but even much better accredited schools are closer to 6 to 8k at the top end.

The money point is no different than most of these kids getting rooked into college. Couple years and 20k and still only get a 20-25 bucks an hour job depending IF they even get into what they took in school as most do not. My kid is perfect example two years of college ( live away from home) for DSW and when she got out offering her just a buck or so over min wage and had to driver her car as a contractor. UM nope....DSWinc.. not going to fly she has a job in an auto parts plant been there a couple years and gotten 2 promotions and a few raises.
