Hidden camera, internal memo reveal how unqualified truck drivers are getting onto Canada's roads

So we all know this has been happening for years! Everybody is on the take! No Kidding! If the Goverment wanted to do something they would. They will wash their hands of it as once they give a guy his license now its yours and your insurance companies problem. Until you make Truck driving as a skilled trade this will not change. Oh just curious does these people taking bribes include the officers involved in policing these places!

I have heard many stories of Truck driving schools not teaching ELDs or log books to new drivers.
Some drivers we audited were not even familiar with log books (before ELDs). Crazy that driving schools (not legit ones) are pushing through unsafe drivers doing this but taking the full amount.

We had a truck driving school pop up down the road from us in Thorold. It popped up overnight in the gravel parking lot of a neighbouring business. There would be a small group of what looked to be student visa holders gathered around the truck. They were in that parking lot for a few months, then ended up moving to the parking lot at the Esso gas station at the corner. Nobody can tell me that a truck driving school working out of a gas station parking lot is a legitimate business. Who is licensing these schools?

a good chunk of the ones in Mississuaga or Brampton, don't even have a physical office. Where do they do their theory portions?

FUN FACT:
To be a licensed Gondolier (boat guy/gal with stick in italy) you must receive 400 hours of training before taking their tests. Driving a 80k lbs death cage only requires a 103.5. Let that sink in. Pun intended.

also why the heck is it "103.5"??? why not just add the extra 30 mins and make it "104" hours.

I'm guessing the training is 100% "in cab"

EDIT- Where I used to work there was a cul-de-sac and I used to watch them do practical training at the end of it. But would also see a bunch of them occasionally standing around outside listening to an instructor. People paid for this experience.

Reality is they just issue these guys a license and then its the responsibility of the trucking company to make sure they are properly trained ( so why send them to Service Ontario). Then if anything happens like Humbolt ( so sad should never of happened) or any other accident or issue no one looks at who gave them the license just how bad the trucking company is. They will go after the trucking company insurance and possibly charge their directors but when has anyone gone after Service Ontario and said hey you gave a license to a person who passed the absolute basics!!!!
