Hey guys have heard that the law for having a Headboard or Headache rack on your truck or trailer is NOT needed anymore. Can anyone confirm this or anyone heard the ruling on this topic.
Yeah, it has to do with the wording of the Sept 2004 load securement regulation. A scale in BC told me that a few years ago, and I looked it up and sure enough. I still want one on my truck, I've seen too many trucks with pipe sticking out of the windshield. If you do have one it has to be kept in good repair of course, but they can't get you for not having one.
Division 5 - Front End Structures
Application
23(1) Subject to subsection (2), this Division applies to a vehicle transporting cargo that is in
contact with the front-end structure of the vehicle.
(2) Where devices are used on a vehicle that perform the same function as the front end
structure of a vehicle, the devices shall be at least as strong as and provide the same protection
as a front end structure that complies with this Division.
(3) A cab shield is not a front end structure or part of a cargo securement system.
I agree. We have had the debate several times. If a headboard is installed and used as part of load containment, it must meet standards.
Headache racks are never used as load securement (it isnt used to prevent forward movement of the load), so theoretically they could be made out of tinfoil, or not there at all.
