How many carriers will go from Baltimore MD to Calgary AB with a flat full load tarped $ 3800 US? Total Quality Logistics was quite pissed off when I said NO and told me it was a good and fair rate and why would I not take it

But you know someone will end of taking it and moving it! Even though they shouldn't. I have had to take a few orders in the past when I driver has been stuck out there and we needed to get him home but only around what it would take to break even, not losing.

Everything seems to be a "backhaul" rate these days. I have trucks posted from Toronto to Moncton and I get calls every day that start out "so you're trying to get to Moncton?" like they're doing me a favor by calling. I'm not trying to get anywhere but I have a truck available to service Moncton if you can afford my service.

You have to remember that some brokers have only ever brokered. They don't have the foggiest idea that there are costs involved in running a truck. I used to just say no thanks and hang up if they got upset. Simple.

The TQL man told me he knew everything there is to know about trucking and if I couldn't work for those rates my cost were to high

Next time ask him, if it's such a good rate where's his truck. Then ask him what's black, 8 inches long and goes dead in your hand? Then hang up....

You should of asked him to explain that to you! Probably would of been a very interesting conversation! LOL Alot of carrier dispatchers don't even fully understand the full cost of the operation.

Can't blame brokers for everything we had 8 skids of our own freight going to Illinois that we couldn't cover with our own trucks and put it on the link. We would normally pay around $575, probably a little more since it shipped Friday afternoon do deliver Monday morning. We had an American call and before we could even talk rates he offered $350. My radar went up automatically thinking if something is too good to be true it usually is. We checked out the carrier with people that we know have used them and got the thumbs up on great service and the product was delivered on time this morning. I'm still torn about selling something that cheap but I guess I should look at it that when that company is out of business there will be more freight but they really are just screwing up the market.

"Collusion is an agreement, usually secretive, which occurs between two or more persons to deceive, mislead, or defraud others of their legal rights, or to obtain an objective forbidden by law typically involving fraud or gaining an unfair advantage"

I don't beleive that anything wrong has been done. Lowmiler88 is simply stating with his own personal example what we are all noticing lately. He is not trying to deceive or con anyone, he's merely stating that the rates are up and down like a toilet seat during a diarrhea epidemic.

Rates

If it's not collusion to discuss rates on a private site of transportation providers, then would anyone be interested in posting all the rates. Kind of like Wikipedia but for rates. Everyone can post the rates they're getting or paying on all the lanes for everyone to see. I'm considering starting such a site. This could be very valuable to everyone in the transportation industry. No one would ever be underpaid because the market price would be right there.... any thoughts?

Pablo, I think that you need to relax a bit there bud. No carrier names were mentioned, no customer names were mentioned either. If it upsets you that much that someone feels comfortable enough to share his experience, maybe you should rethink reading these types of posts.

It's not like anybody here is trading top secret nuclear information, people are talking about freight rates for crying out loud nobodies securety is at risk.

Total Quality Logistics load brokers are very agressive and persistent and their rates just suck. With the current exchange rate of 1.12 for their once strong American dollar its even less of an incentive to pick up the phone. They go straight to my voice mail as they have for several months now. The magic of caller ID replaces any blood pressure pill, I recommend it over any prescription!

I wonder if this agressive approach really works. I had a broker pretend that he was a regular customer ( Don't you know who I am?) and order a pick up. When explained that I was not new and had been a regular fixture for many years he hung up on me. He didn't offer a rate or ask for one - he just wanted his freight picked up and ASAP.

I would contact the shipper and receiver, it's a good way to find a new customer...
